The risk of cannabis is undeniable

Recommended Posts

YOUNG cannabis users are risking serious mental illness and could be doing irreversible damage to their vital brain functions.

Experts have found consistent links between long-term cannabis use - particularly early addicts - and an increased risk of psychotic symptoms like hallucinations and delusions.

Recent research from the University of Queensland's Brain Institute found young adults who started using cannabis early in their lives were three times more likely to suffer psychosis than their peers.

The long-term study among 21-year-olds revealed those who used the drug for six or more years increased their risk of developing psychotic disorders and the younger people were when they started taking cannabis the higher the chance they would experience mental illness.

Psychotic symptoms?... that takes in most of the population under 21,.. I'd be looking into what happened to the subjects in the real world though that triggered the psychotic episode... I honestly believe they are missing the point as who's to say the psychotic episode wasn't lessened by the use of cannabis? Would the person still have had the episode anyway because of their lifestyle, living conditions, upbringing or lack of, the calibre of the people around them passing on life skills, the list of triggers is huge imo...

This type of thinking, that cannabis is somehow the culprit for a range of problems, is widely accepted amongst GP's as well as pschologists and psychiatrists, speaking from first hand experience, whilst at the same time admitting that they understand the use of cannabis is often therapeutic and used by people to chill out, calm down, reduce pain etc etc...

Sitting on the couch pulling bongs all day is never a good look, but then again sitting on the couch all day getting pissed won't do much for your brain either, if your 15,... and all the way to 24 too if that's how long it takes for a persons brain to fully develop. In my opinion the outcomes that are derived from these studies are misguided, I'm not saying there aren't some idiots out there using cannabis that need to clean their act up and act more responsibly but I wouldn't be blaming the cannabis for 100% of their problems.

I was that idiot Bufo. Abuse any substance, there will be some sort of reaction, but psychotic episodes from cannabis use, no, psychotic episodes from not being able to obtain cannabis, another story. Think that's all I need to say.

What a load of crap burner

I smoked everyday  from 16-17yo and gave up cold turkey at 32-33ish for over a year . No psychotic episodes here , only withdrawal for me from what my wife said, i was a grumpy prick for 2 weeks or so . Hardly psychotic.

Well said buffo . How many of these 18-24yo long-term cannabis users where taking who the fuck knows what else .

17-24 for me  was not just cannabis use  , but a combination  booze ,acid ,speed, ecstasy etc..

These study's  are  very inaccurate and just try to do what government has been  doing forever , scare the shit outta people . Control the people with fear .
