The decriminalization of small amounts of marijuana in Vermont takes effect on Monday. Those found in possession of less than one ounce will face a civil offense; similar to a traffic ticket. It will still be a criminal offense for possessing over one ounce and cultivating marijuana. Governor Peter Shumlin signed the legislation into law earlier in early June.
