thoughts on reg or fem orders.

Recommended Posts

Make no mistake about it, you can get males and hermies from feminized seeds just like you can regular seeds. Its rare, but it does happen which is why they're not a sure thing if you only get a single seed or two. Personally I would only consider getting feminized seeds if I never intended on keeping the strain in seed form and only intended on growing a few plants max. You can almost be assured of never wasting space with males that way which makes life considerably easier. Having said that though the males can turn 5 expensive seeds into 5000 free ones no problems which preserves the strain, allows you to trade with friends and best of all you can start breeding a strain that suits you perfectly instead of what someone else likes. Its more work but the rewards are there for the taking if you have the time and space to deal with regular seeds.

I can't even think what 5000 seeds looks like. But in saying never have to order again.

Have you considered vegging a mother plant for your outdoor exploits? As for seeds, I am yet to make my own purchase, but you would be fairly unlucky to strike out with 10. Hermaphrodites, providing that the seeds were born of pure pistillate and staminate parent plants, should be a rarity. The ratio of female to male should be three in five, either way. This is only going by what I have read though, you would probably get more hermaphrodites with the fem seeds, as I have read that they use a predominantly pistillate hermaphrodite, which forms a few staminate flowers late in the cycle, as the pollen parent for female they wish to seed.

Again, only going by what I have read.

I had a feminised Jack Herer that turned out to be 100% male this grow, I have had Hermies befor but not males. If I had had the space I would have kept it but no chance. The other 5 regular seeds I had only produced one male so I have 4 females from regular seeds plus 2 females from 3 feminised seeds and I am veryl crowded in my grow area. I didnt think the regulars would have such a high fem percentage but thats just the luck of the draw.

There is no evidence to suggest that 'the ratio of female to male should be three in five'.

The ratio is statistically 50/50 when you use massive numbers, but realistically its random as a single bit of pollen out of millions if not billions will knock the lady up and your guess as to whether that bit of pollen helped make a male or female seed is no better than flipping a coin.

I think subzero has a bumper sticker slogan along the lines of " real men grow regular seeds" :)

Unless you plan on breeding, fem seeds are fine. I'm sorta ethically against them but they are usefull. Takes a bit of the guesswork out of it, which is great if there's time and space constraints.

I've only had a few hermies from fem seed, no males.

If going outdoors you could also consider femmed autos and maybe get a couple of harvests in for the season.

If cash is short I guess you could just buy a couple of femmed photo (non-auto) seeds, grow them as parents, take heaps of cuttings and run them outdoors. Bonza do pick'n'mix, where you can buy just one seed of a given strain. That way you'd get some variety which like said above is pretty important IMO.

Good luck dude, let us know what you end up choosing.

Valid points all round, everyone will have different situations and goals that will go either way. I can only grow 2 at a time indoors and don't want to risk getting dudes so I did just what Stoned off road just said and went pick n mix, 10 different fem strains that I will take cuttings from and alternate as I get immune. I scored twins from one fem 8 ball kush seed too.

Well I'm looking at demonseeds.com

I started with 54 strains and I'm down to 10.

A rough guideline I was following was blueberry taste, skunk or OG,

would like to try cheese, bubblegum and Maui wowie or something that sounds tasty.

I went with kc brains for price and yield, but there's not much info on them, swapped Maui wowie for pineapple express, went for skunk crosses in big bang and cristal paradise.

budget without shipping I was hoping $50.00 atm its around $60.00 plus I've got 10% off so I'm on par.

For flavor.

Bubblegun-spliff-reg x2

berry bomb-bomb-reg x2

for yield.

big bomb-bomb-reg x2

danky doodle-kc brain-reg x2

Tnr-kc brain- reg x2

Cristal paradise- kc brain- reg x2 and taste as well.

spontanca-kc brain-reg x2

Effects.

cheese-vision-fem x1

zamaldelica-ace seeds-reg x2

For the name, taste.

pineapple express- barneys farm- auto fem x1

I've got a lot of different strains there not going to be planted all at once.

what you think?

Have you grown any of these?

Any info would be great, if you didn't read before they will be for a bush grow.

Everyones input has been great so far.

Not true, this is species determinant. with something like a monkey u could expect 50/50

sexdermination is still a real mystery to science. ESP when and how gender began

in the bird world u can have sevaral males to many females, i saw this myself when out at Burk.

One proun male to a hundred-ish females.

dunno much about how plants divide that up but the edges arent straight and school is still in.
