thoughts on reg or fem orders.

Recommended Posts

I'm about to place an order but I keep 2nd guessing myself on what to get and how many.

main problem is chance on reg seeds come as males, as I only want females but trying to keep funds low.

I could order two regulars at a cheaper price to one femizised seed.

If you have ordered a regular seeds and been happy or upset that they were male.

I've got no uses of males.

what your thoughts on ordering regular over femizised seeds, how do you order?

it's a gamble isnt it ... you might get all male seeds :/

if you want something to smoke at the end of it id probably be ordering fem seeds to make sure ... or a larger number of reg seeds if you feel like the gamble ... which takes you back to your original question lol

chicken or the egg eh? your choice

Really comes down to personal preference and situation, but having the option of gathering pollen to create your own seedstock and/or breeding program is something that should be a consideration.  If you are growing under lights, or have a lighting option available to sex plants properly before putting them outdoors, it's a simple matter of popping more seeds at the beginning and culling back to what you need.  I had a preference for fem's for my next outdoor grow, but now that I went to the trouble of building a little veg cabinet to get plants started and cut back lighting briefly to sex I'm preferring regulars so I can keep a good male or 2 for pollen.  General rule of thumb seems to be 40-50% males with regular seeds from what I can make out, and there is not a 100% guarantee that all fem seeds will be female.

Make no mistake about it, you can get males and hermies from feminized seeds just like you can regular seeds.  Its rare, but it does happen which is why they're not a sure thing if you only get a single seed or two.  Personally I would only consider getting feminized seeds if I never intended on keeping the strain in seed form and only intended on growing a few plants max.  You can almost be assured of never wasting space with males that way which makes life considerably easier.  Having said that though the males can turn 5 expensive seeds into 5000 free ones no problems which preserves the strain, allows you to trade with friends and best of all you can start breeding a strain that suits you perfectly instead of what someone else likes.  Its more work but the rewards are there for the taking if you have the time and space to deal with regular seeds.

I could grow them at home until sex is known, but will they not grow to full potential if grown bush from a early age.

plus I don't really like the idea of growing at home.

but having not to order again or for a long time would be awesome.

what's the average wait until sex is shown 3-4weeks?
