SOUTHERN drug dealers are cutting the grass of growers in one of Queensland's prime cannabis cultivation areas.

Police have busted a syndicate that allegedly muscled into the market in Bundaberg, a region traditionally abounding with outdoor plantations, by hawking high-potency cannabis grown indoors and interstate.

Two men from rural Victoria who drove to Bundaberg allegedly to unload cannabis and amphetamines were among five people charged with trafficking yesterday after a six-month sting that netted $150,000 worth of drugs.

The State Drug Investigation Unit working with local detectives seized 25 pounds (11kg) of cannabis yesterday and a further 47 plants this morning from an Avoca property.

Bundaberg District Operations Coordinator, Acting Inspector Joe Hildred said it was believed the cannabis was grown in Victoria hydroponically and "appears to be of high-quality".

Hydroponic cannabis is grown indoors and without soil, resulting in a higher concentration of active ingredient THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) than in cannabis grown outdoors.

Bundaberg, since the 1980s, has been recognised as one the state's prime cannabis growing regions alongside Gympie, the Burdekin and Cairns.

Det Acting Inspector Hildred said the trafficking of interstate cannabis into Bundaberg might be a response to a police crackdown on local plantations in recent years.

"Perhaps because we target that kind of drug activity up here, it's easier to bring it up grown than to grow it yourself here - there's more of a likelihood you're going to get caught in a smaller environment like Bundaberg," he said.

Det Acting Inspector Hildred said it was not unusual for criminal syndicates to sell cannabis into Queensland.

"It happens quite regularly. There is a large quantity of cannabis that comes up Victoria and South Australia into the northern states," he said.

Police on raids also seized cash, ammunition and three cars, including one driven from Victoria by a 55-year-old man from Echuca and a 58-year-old man from Kyabram.

Nope,we don't want anyone growing it here; we'd rather attract drugs from some place else, by someone else!. Hell we want to see all that money flowing right out of this district to some place else!

This is very 'stupid head'

edit: to make the point, ANYONE reading that article with enough balls; maybe minus some brains. could see that you could sell A LOT of weed in Bunderburge right now.

Not that Im condoning that; but it sounds like some fucker in Bunderburge is
