Smelly weed

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm planning on growing four different strains at the same time but they won't all be havested at the same time , So I'm wondering if any of them are going to cause odour problems while they dry, does anyone know if the following strains are particularly smelly?

Hindu Kush

Jack Herer

AK47

Skunk Haze

Also, (this is my first grow) does the odour reduce once they're havested?

Thanks

I'm buying another grow tent soon specifically for drying.  It'll have fans and a carbon filter in it to control odour and will be filled with clothes airers so I can hang my buds instead of laying them down.  Its only going to cost a few hundred to get setup because I don't need high quality products, but the difference it will make will be huge.  No stink, bigger buds from a lack of compression, less lost resin from the buds only touching air, manicuring in the final stages will be easier, etc.  Best of all it can be used as a grow room when not drying so its a win/win situation if there ever was one :)

On the cheap you can just get a large box, hang some string/rope/fishing line inside it to hang ya buds, run some ducting from the box into your grow tent and use your carbon filter and fan that your tent already has (i assume, i know, im probably an ass lol ) to take care of the drying box

Having somewhere to dry buds once harvested is just as important as somewhere to grow em, no point going to all that hard work to then fuck it all up at the final hurdle

I wouldn't sacrifice any space in my grow tents for drying buds unless I had no other options available to me.  It might be massively more expensive buying a dedicated tent/fans/filter but it means I can constantly keep growing and I'll be able to perfectly dry a few pounds without having any odour issues which I know from experience can be insane.  I remember about 6 years ago harvesting some skunk #1, around 7-8oz in total, manicuring it all in a single night and hanging it up to dry in my wardrobe.  The next day I went out shopping for 4 or 5 hours and I could smell it before I even opened the front gate.  When I opened the front door this awesome grassy. skunky, bud stank had attached itself to every bit of air inside the house and it immediately came rushing out at me.  I didn't have odour control at the time and it was so much stronger than the growing plants it was insane.  I lost my shit and put the buds in the room at the back of the house, chucked all the fans I could in there and quick dried it all in 5 days.  It was good after a cure but very harsh before then.  Personally I never want to go through that again and since I now have a daughter I have to be super stealthy which makes getting a dedicated drying area a must.  I also think it will pay off because it will allow me to control everything like tempature, humidity, air flow, etc. which should make drying more of science than just hanging some buds and putting a fan on them.  I can run experiments such as drying individual nugs compared to whole branchs or even entire plants to see what works best for my strains, at what point mould becomes a potential issue, etc.  Its going to be great messing around in there and the end result will be my buds being as good as they can be :)

I do a lot of running, and when I go for a run through the streets at night it's amazing the number of houses you pass where you can smell the odour of MJ.  Often it's from people smoking but other times you know it's from being grown or dried. I guess I notice it more because my senses are heightened when I'm running.

Another thing is that when you are growing, after a while you don't notice the odour because you get used to it, but other people do.

There is a term for being nose deaf, I forget what it is, but essentially your brain gets bored with things after a while and ignores them.  Thats why you can get used to 100s of plants not stinking up the house but someone else can smell them from a block away.  Its not like you know its happening either, its just a gradual shift to not smelling the plants until you're right on top of them.
