Best seed choice river bank in SW QLD hot climate

Recommended Posts

haha thanks tangwena I think ill need the luck mate. Im unsure about how high to plant from the water line. it is an area that doesn't receive a lot of rainfall however the river rises and falls often very dramatically due to rain in other parts of the country. I need to find a spot where my babies wont get washed away but also will be able to find water themselves as I wont be going to the site very often. bit of a gamble really but gotta be in it to win it!

I am thinking ill go with that super deluxe as its here in aus, is very resilient to disease, can have seriously large yields and is supposed to be a nice high. Have you got experience growing these Malawi strains outdoors here in Aus? ill probably end up taking the clone path even though its more work the benefits will be greater I think.

I like the idea of going clones if your able to for a few reasons. It allows you to have a mother inside somewhere that in a pinch you can flower and re-Veg for a quick extra harvest. You can have your clone-army rooted and ready to plant as soon as the season starts for you hopefully meaning your plants have a little extra time to mature or you can harvest that bit quicker and reduce the amount of time your crop is out and exposed. You'd be more likely to have plants provide you the same results and you would know what to expect from your genetics, meaning if a couple of plants in one spot are having a problem you can pin point a nutrient problem in that spot etc.

Seeds would be awesome for progressing your genetics but if you're happy with what you have, clones sound good to me

Hi DD yes I have grown Malawi for several years about 10yrs ago I got the seeds myself from Malawi there are as you would emagine quite a few different strains or as I now know phenotypes most grow tall 4 to 6mtrs I used to grow in a swamp or it was in the rains I made large islands like graves to get above the water level by a foot or so chucked in bags of organic manures cow shit mixes are good compost and sandy soil to drain. I planted in the wettest time and as the water level dropped the roots followed it I never waterd it at all. By harvest the area was dry and the plants huge. I stopped growing a few years ago when I sold the property Now i have to grow inside I am hoping the quality will not suffer to much. In my humble opinion I have never got as high on grass as with malawi (from Africa) when I lived there. I have got more stoned but not fully tripped out if you grow it properly and have the right seeds its allmost like lsd just better as you know you will come down after about 4hrs of mayhem.

hahaha my god! not once have a packed a bong with the intention of going on an acid trip but good to hear its strong! tripping isn't really my cup of tea though. That's a good point about planting in the wettest time that way once the water subsides, the roots will simply find it. Im not sure how im going to go about it but I think ill try a few places and plant at a few different times and at different heights from the water. No doubt it will be a bit of trial and error but even if I can get 5 or 6 really nice trees ill be stoked. I have never tried in these areas but need to remember that it can get scorching hot, mini cyclones, flash flooding as well as serious flooding where the water level can fluctuate over 5m during a season. Quite a few things to contend with but you just never know what the weather will do these days in aus. particularly in QLD it can be very erratic. Ah well just a bit of fun really I enjoy growing anything weather it be basil or Malawi gold! How big did your plants grow and what was the yield off each plant in the swamp?

Hi mate in a season the stork of the plant after cutting was good enough to make broom handles and the colas are about as thick as your forearm. It can get as big as you let it given enough nutes. I never used to weigh it but it was super market bags of green undried bud from each plant. But if you dont like it strong (why?) better get a swazi or some of the thousands of other strains around that are suited. The Malawi is a very hardy plant hard to kill and in Africa it finishes off at the driest time of the year so it can handle drought. Whatever you plant just make lots of plots at different levels from the river that way at least some will make it.

I'm still envious of your location I wish I still had my old property now I have some killer seeds. I would go to town I can tell you.

On the Ace web site it warns not to operate machinery or drive if you smoke malawi I could not agree more I remember one time 3 of us so tripped out we didn't know our car when we saw it, and spent 3 hrs wandering around till it wore off and we were sure it was our car. The funny thing is it was the ONLY car parked there and we still didnt know it was ours. I miss those times. Good luck anyway and grow hard.
