Preventing disease before it spreads

Recommended Posts

Cannabis has few pests that we have to worry about indoors... mites often turn up when clones are traded between growers but a couple of sprays with Mite-Rid soons breaks their breeding cycle.

Fungus gnats will turn up in a sealed room regardless of how many filters are placed over the inlet vents, they will cruise in at ease when the human does the watering if they can smell stinky roots for dinner... no stinky roots = no food = no gnats, simple :)

White fly are probably the only pest that inlet filters seem to stop.

My view is that maintaining a healthy root zone and growing enviroment, as Louise touched on, is the simplest and most effective method for dealing with pests.

Hey bufo

Totally agree with having a healthy root system, cause I was running a recirculating system I used an additive called oxy plus which is hydrogen peroxide (pretty sure) lol which cleaned all the dead cells off around the roots then turning the dead matter into oxygen, which goes into the water.

:) yeah haze, OxyPlus or HySan, both Hydrogen Peroxide (H202) products. Your on the right track with how it works, sort of. The high concentration of Oxygen wipes out ALL bacteria, the good and the bad, so the thing to remember when using H202 is to either keep using it every couple days till the grow is finished or introduce healthy bacteria around 2-3 days after dosing with the H202.... During the first 48hrs of being mixed into the solution the extra Oxygen molecule is given off the H202 which results in a highly oxygenated nutrient solution, perfect for the roots.

If you want to turn the roots back into organic matter, and have a semi organic hydro grow, this is where Cannazyme and a few of the other 'zymes' come into their own as the healthy bacteria assist in breaking down the old roots, which die daily in a healthy system too by the way... and is also why coco seems to get better with use; because the healthy bacteria have multiplied and are maintaining a healthy rhizosphere.

This web page has some decent info and as well, explains in greater detail how to use some of the better known rootzone products  http://www.gchydro.com/information_roots.asp

Happy gardening :)

Cannazym isnt a bacteria, its an enzyme which is basically an organic very highly selective catalyst (not living). That said h202 will break enzymes down so its a waste of time using them along side zyme products. What is living and is great at breaking down roots however is trichoderma which will actually break down roots more completely than cannazym (but will take a longer time).

Edit: great link by the way :)

Edit2: what this has to do with Australian cannabis law is completely beyond me
