Hps cooling times.

Recommended Posts

Largely depends on the Ballast

An Electronics Ballast will compensate for almost everything.

Magnetic ballast won't.

Also depends on how often you want to fire it back up before a 10 minute cool down. If you only do it every now and then that's fine.

The biggest problem with firing up a hot tube is erosion and pitting of the Arc Points. Keeping in mind these tubes should still do

10,000 hours, that's why they use them in Street lighting and stadiums...MH lighting hold the same principle.

Long and short is 10 minutes is fine, anything less on a regular basis will shorten the life of the tube.

The information I have given you is fact and based upon Night Sun lamps used in Police Helicopters and the like.

They use a Zenon Bulb but the principle for all ARC type bulbs is the same.

P.S. The same goes for on time...you should also leave it on for at least 10 minutes, this is the time it takes to clean up the ARC pits.

Grow well
