The general consensus is that LED's are next to useless by themselves, and probably only have limited advantage when used in conjunction with HPS or MH.  They work, but the yield is likely to be pitifully small.

I understand wanting to go cheap, but if you want indoor success you're gonna have to spend some money, and cheaping out too much is usually a false economy, you're better off starting right.  If you want to save money on power maybe use CFL for veg, then HPS for bloom, making sure you match your light output to your grow area and number/size of plants.  You also need to spend cash on ventilation (extremely important), and odour control if it's a potential issue.  Of course a really cheap but effective option is the sun, but we've hit the end of season

Take a deep breath, sus out what you need to do it properly, suck down some bongs to get over the shock, and best of luck with your grow.

I have one of those lights and I wont even use it for cloning....

When it comes to growing you only get out what you put in and if you are unwilling to invest in the grow it will not supply you.  Consider it an investment that will pay off if you stick around here and read up a bit.

Heya mate and welcome to OS. I would use an 80w Philips CFL to get started, Glandore hydro got them including reflector for $100 on special now, you can get em cheaper, but you can trust them. Order online too.

That will do 2 plants in a cupboard in Veg, you can, at a scrape use one to flower, but they are not as good as a HPS ballast and globe, which you will need later to flower properly.

The LED panel you linked to is a waste of time... might be a good night light for kids..... lol

Only LED panels even stepping up to the plate are Cree powered ones and they are 5W + powered leds with heatsinks.

People here think I hate LED's, I don't I just don't like seeing young fellas like yaself buy a piece of shit that will sit in the cupboard for years after their first try at growing.

It's just because I understand the electronic theory behind LED's and it is flawed on low powered units. So buy a cheap one......get burnt pretty much.

Even the whizz bang expensive ones are more exxy than a Plasma light and not as good by a long shot.

I want to see people growing weed, not TRYING to grow weed and pushing shit up hill for poor results. If you look around the site, you will see a few LED grows, a lot dont live up to the hype, and most are incomplete because the grower is too embarrassed to show the end result. Sorry , but thats the size of it. I been here 3 years, never seen an LED grow on this site that even made me think they were worthwhile.

ok cool ty I think I found a good set of 4 cfls. that Are not to expensive and seem to do what I have read on here that they have to do. this is them ,

these are 2700k ones I can get a 32w which puts out 1900 lumms instead of the 20w one with it so that should be good for flowering two shouldn't t it.

note the small one on the daylight will replace the small warm white one with the same size daylight bulb. I will be growing 3 auto plants ill start with 1 and after every 4 weeks try put a new germ in and keep them going. so I have coinstants supply of buds.

plus my landlord pays for my elllect  so I can use a few bulbs but don't want it to be to sus. any help will be app. I no im new and dumb but I been reading for a few weeks now and think I have a good idea. ty vm in advanced

A friend grows with led. Sorry upfa, but $100 is not nowhere near enough. I see you went with cfl, best cheap option. To give you a rough idea of how much it costs to light a 1.5 x 1.5 x 2.0mtr room. 3 pads, at approximately 1500 each, 3 red spectrum leds at 220 each.

Will save $ on power in the very long term, but a big investment to begin with. Comparisons to grows under hps are well under in regard to yield, around a third less under led. ( compared to 2 x 600w hps)

Regardless of what light you use, no pot tastes better than the pot you grew yourself.:-)

You know those small heaters designed to keep super small bedrooms warm?  I have one in front of me now chewing 2000w of power.  Thats more than 3x 600w lights.  If your power is included in the rent do yourself a favor and get a decent light because the landlord will never notice the difference and if you want to be all green about things use the ducting to exhaust the warm air to your lounge room or where ever you spend a bunch of time.  I used to do that all the time in winter and not only does it really help to keep you warm if you need more warmth you can just throw another log on to the fire by firing up another grow light which means more heat and buds.  Its the ultimate win/win situation, especially with the landlord footing the bill lol
