Wicking beds - raised garden beds

Recommended Posts

I thought the whole point of a wicking bed was it being a form of passive hydroponics does not require any pumps or such.

Why not go a deep water culture system if you're going through all the effort of installing pumps and airstones?

I could see it being a nice option on an aquaponics loop, it would allow you to have worms in the wicking bed without them getting drowned and hopefully giving you a natural organic nutrient boost.

for a normal hydro setup I dont see it being too logical tbh

you can just run worms in your growbed anyway. i have stacks of them in my hydroton in my little aquaponics system. doesnt have to be wicking beds to have worms in there. but in the wicking beds you could run al sorts of organic ferts like guano etc with no trouble

I had been doing DWC indoors for a while now, but going outdoors in future.  I guess i keep leaning back towards DWC which is why i thought about circulating the water, this would keep the oxygen content in the water up as well as keep the water level & moisture content in the soil balanced.

I could see the wicking beds being easily modified for an aquaponics setup, but one step at a time for me!
