New Cannabis Law Kicks Off Today

anyone thinking of 'coming out of the closet' should really think about.

the police use 'their own discretion' on the small amounts so its all bs in my opinion.

just another day really. dont celebrate just yet cops make things up to meet quota's and the fines are to keep paper work and court appearances down. Cops have slow days too and if they get bored a-knocking they will be and fucked be ye

They maintain discretion, sure, but that's central to their job - Police use discretionary powers every single day!

If you are charged over an expiable amount, just take it to court and you'll receive a similar penalty - force the issue and drag them along to court, make a mockery of them and it will serve to set an example, the Judge may even chastise them.

WA Police have been set very clear guidelines on this legislation, it's only going to be abused by corrupt cops and they're the ones who will try to get you anyway, no matter what the law says.

If you're growing, sure, think twice about coming out. But if you're just a personal-use user then chances are you'll not face a single negative consequence, and you'll actually enjoy many positive ones. Talk to your family about your cannabis use, see what they think and try to educate them. Do the same with your friends and close work mates. If you're up to it, tell the world and write a Letter to The Editor about what you think of cannabis and the counter-productive laws prohibiting it.

Nothing ever changes for oppressed people until they say enough is enough and they finally take a stand for their dignity and their survival. We can pray for legalisation, but if pray is all we do it will be a long wait and I expect many of us will be dead long before that day comes. We need to fight for equal rights, people who abuse alcohol and tobacco don't get punished. I'm not abusing cannabis, I'm using it responsibly and safely, and I'm informed. There is no logical argument for punishing me and not those who use/abuse significantly more harmful drugs.

I just had a quick read thru the CANNABIS CONTROL BILL 2003

Second Reading Speech, acording to this extract Im not really doing hydro simply an automated water and feed system as the roots are NOT IN a liquid nutrient solution

"Hydroponic cultivation in this context is intended to have its ordinary meaning, that

is, cultivation by placing the roots of a plant in a liquid nutrient solution rather than in soil."

http://www.dao.health.wa.gov.au/pdf/cac/Ca...ding_Speech.pdf

Im no Lawyer but it may be a fair argument by the letter of the Law

Hehe, nice one WB, but I still think the wangers would probably get around it. I've got a few theories on what you 'may' be able to pass off as non-hydroponic. But the problem is, there are varying descriptions for hydro, it's a totally grey area still. But if you had good enough legal representation, you could get away with it.......maybe :P

Anyway, as Bob Dylan sang, the times they are a changin'! We'll get there, maybe we'll all be in weelchairs and on walking sticks by the time we do, but we'll get there ::P:

As niall said, liberal/national, put em' last for sure!! Even if you vote green, it'll go labours way. I used to be a Labour voter, in a sense I suppose I still am :P Go Greens!

I've recently been in close contact with some of the WA Greens and they are our closest ally, they officially support a legal, regulated cannabis market.

Some of the party have lost their way, and the issue of cannabis (and other drug) regulation isn't as high a priority as it once was, so it'd be nice to see a bunch of us join up as Greens members and start pushing some buttons, maybe even run for a seat ourselves *hint hint* :P

No way Niall. The Greens are a pack of wankers.

That would be really cool. But how to get all the pro-marijuana people to rally together? Nobody will want to be the first protestor. You would need massive advertising. Not so difficult to arrange if you are a little devious. Dropping flyers on the next Big Brother household for example. Hanging a banner from highway bridges. All crazy enough scenarios to guarantee further advertising on the television news. One thing guaranteed to get thousands of people together would be saying that thousands of people are coming. Its a self fulfilling prophecy. People hear that thousands are going and that gives them the courage to go themselves. Even if just out of curiosity. Look at the millions in Spain who turned up to protest the train attack. Its the Lemmings syndrome. Once a large number of people congregate others want to take part too. Its exciting. There are plenty of disgruntled people sick of being bullied by corrupt cops, picked on by politicians looking for an easy target and talked down to by magistrates who don't know their heads from their asses. I would certainly go to a big protest march if I thought I would be one of thousands.

Good one Chong.

Ive actually been enticed to go to a pro-cannabis march - it was done from the Queen Street Mall to King George Square in Brisbane many years ago and joints were thrown into the crowd. It was peaceful [except the scuffle to light up] and atracted media coverage also.

Ive been to about 5 pro-cannabis rallies, all of them were advertised in mainstream media, every one of them had police presence and they were peaceful [nothing like what NAP are up to - they should just give up as they misrepresent the pro-cannabis movement].

I havent seen anything lately but Id be there in a heartbeat.

PS. you can get free advertising via posting the information to TripleJ and The Courier Mail apparently. Dont forget to ring the police in the area of the event so they dont spin out on the day/night [make sure theres no State of Origin or whatever on to avoid any external conflict]. :P
