Cerberus
It's good to see an article that doesn't spin the bullshit and hype. The writer even mentioned the other dude was caught by conventional methods.
salpon
Wow I'm shocked. EnterTheMatrix are very well known on SR as they ship worldwide from Australia. But they have been looking suspicious for a while as their feedback was slipping and they had a reputation for selling very weak products. The escrow system should protect those buyers who did not receive their orders though.
Cerberus
Wow I'm shocked. EnterTheMatrix are very well known on SR as they ship worldwide from Australia. But they have been looking suspicious for a while as their feedback was slipping and they had a reputation for selling very weak products. The escrow system should protect those buyers who did not receive their orders though. I hope you're right, although with the recent trend of vendors asking everyone to FE (finalise early), I wouldn't be surprised if he went down the same route and then jacked everyone. As much as the media want to beat it up into a "customs scared him to finish his business..." The end story is this: The dude worked hard to maintain that SR reputation as a vendor to amass the sum he needed. He then, in an act of celebration had a sale. Slashing prices to entice new and regular buyers, it was all working to plan. The bitcoins were rolling in and quicker than he could confirm each order, he was overwhelmed with the satisfaction that his plan had worked and he was about to double his profits. Not because he had a sudden abundance in customers. It was the fact that this time there weren't going to be any deliveries. This time it was all profit, and with the sudden influx of eager beavers already transferring their virtual currency to a still reputable vendor, it would reap in the orders and no-one would suspect a thing until at least 2 weeks later. At least that's when the shit starts hitting the fan. In the internet definition anyway. Convincing the courts in your chosen country is one thing, trying to explain to them the whole concept of Bitcoin, online markets, etc is just an exercise in futility at the moment. It's gonna take a miracle to get this guy and the community knows it. This sort of thing rocks the whole place, you can't ignore it. Anyone with a decent rep could pull that shit, and anyone wanting to cash out, might as well. The dude had a plan from day one, he worked up the funds to support whatever lifestyle he chose for himself and that's all any of us are doing right now. Just not in such a grand scale with such anonymity. Except most of us have reasons why we wouldn't do that. ...and another page is turned in the history of the internet TL;DR - EnterTheMatrix played the game and won this round. The most we can do is roll the dice and not let him play again. (somehow)
