Well after moderate success with my first White Widow grow, I've got my hands on a few more seeds & having a go at NL5 x Haze...and so far not doing well at all. She's growing extremely slow, and as you'll see from the pics (taken tonight), the leaves are sparse and not looking healthy. Seems too light a shade of green, some leaves seem a bit twisted/distorted, and the lowest blade leaves look as good as dead. It's probably in part due to my bumpy start - when I originally set my grow tent up a few weeks back, the room I had it in was always too warm no matter what I did, I couldn't keep the tent's internal temp lower than 35-40C! I had a house inspection a week later, then had to go away for a few days, so I hid everything and set it all back up about 4 days later, this time right near my air con unit, so at least for the last 1 1/2 weeks I've got the temp back at a good 25C-27C. I re-potted at this time and put it closer to my lighting (about 17'' away). It seemed to be getting worse, and starting to yellow the bottom, so I figured she was crying out for nutes. I gave her a very small dosage over the weekend (PH adjusted, run-off was a perfect 5.9), which didn't seem to do much. I've been watering daily since then, and gave her a much stronger feed last night. She actually seems to have perked up a little since then, but I think the feeding was TOO strong, because today I noticed that some leaves have a few tiny dark spots on them. When I watered today, the EC run-off was far too high, so I gave her a mini-flush with PH adjusted water (about 10L) until the EC run-off was down to a much better 1.2 with PH still at 5.9. Now I'm just sitting tight to see what happens over the next few days. Another thing that isn't helping is that I have to leave everything turned off while I'm at work. So for about 9 hours the fans aren't running, so no ventilation during this time. Reason being is that the house I'm renting is newly constructed - so new that they still need to do a bit more work on it. Maintenance has a habit of just turning up with very little notice, so if I'm at work when this happens and they hear extremely loud fans in a suspicious looking tent...well... Of course legally I could tell them to f*** off without giving written notice prior...but at the same time I don't want them thinking I might have something to hide...which obviously I do. . Meh, maybe I should just risk it to keep a proper vent going. Anyways, would appreciate some assistance once again. Unfortunately, this was my only NL5 x Haze seed, and as this is the strain I'm dying to smoke most of all, I'm desperate to turn this around and make her thrive! Grow420
Id back off on the watering from every day to every 2nd maybe even 3rd day (untill medium is almost dry) maybe lower your dose of nutes also..There are alot of people here with alot more experience than me that are usually pretty good at throwing around helpful adviceAny ways, good luck with the grow420
The Hash Nibbler
Nah ya pretty much on the money Grow Tiny plant, big pot, using too much nutrients on a plant thats only just got 3 sets of true leaves, and overwatering. You are killing it with Kindness, a plant that size in coco , in that size pot only needs to be watered once every 4-5 days MAXIMUM, even in hot weather. I have a whole room going in this heat wave, as long as the roots are cool, and the plants are just in veg, they wont die, in flower it may be a problem, but cooler weather be here soon...........we hope. Aircon, unless ya using it for yourself is an exspensive way to grow. Cooltube if your not running one would help a lot. Peace. Nibbler.
Matanuska Thunder
Yup what those two said.No watering for at least a few days.... IF you need to water plants everyday (and YOU do not) nutes need to be adjusted, that is - use 1/2 strength nutes (or less).
Beardboy
Righto, thanks a lot guys. I'll back off from watering for the next few days as recommended. It's already looking a bit more promising - the leaves have grown a bit bigger, and it looks like a couple of new sets are starting out too. The dark spots haven't gotten worse...in fact they seem better. I'll keep a close eye on her - if she really takes off and there's no further problems then I think I'll get started on grow journal #2! Beardboy
Hey mate, yeah she lives...or should I say he/she lives! As you can see, it really turned around over the last 1 1/2 months and was looking great. In fact I switched to 12/12 exactly two weeks ago (pic taken last night): I don't know how the hell I missed this last night, but after checking again tonight, well... They're most pronounced here, but after inspecting the rest of the plant closely, they're definitely on all branches. So frustrating...I was really looking forward to experiencing some NL5. Oh well, guess I'll just have to scrap it. Here's a bit of fun - let's pick my next seed! The choices are: White Widow (Dutch Passion)G13 Haze (Barney's Farm)Amnesia (Vision)G-Bomb (Big Buddha) Whaddya guys reckon ?
