hey,

not sure if this is a repost, but found this last night.

posted 17/1/2013 from cancer.gov "National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health" http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/pdq/cam/cannabis/healthprofessional/page4

Laboratory/Animal/Preclinical Studies

"Cannabinoids may cause antitumor effects by various mechanisms, including induction of cell death, inhibition of cell growth, and inhibition of tumor angiogenesis invasion and metastasis.[9-12] One review summarizes the molecular mechanisms of action of cannabinoids as antitumor agents.[13]
Cannabinoids appear to kill tumor cells but do not affect their nontransformed counterparts and may even protect them from cell death.
These compounds have been shown to induce apoptosis in glioma cells in culture and induce regression of glioma tumors in mice and rats. Cannabinoids protect normal glial cells of astroglial and oligodendroglial lineages from apoptosis mediated by the CB1 receptor.[14]

Hi FP,

Yet another study that shows that cannabis kills cancer. I tell people about this - scientific fact - and you can see their eyes glaze over and their media enforced preconditioning kick in. "But, it's illegal!" they mutter.

For great coverage of the cannabis/hemp awareness movement currently underway see website www.alternet.org.

hey there. yeah i mos def agree. we need human trials and long term studies with humans. but with all medical trials. rats and mice are usually first. im not saying cannabis is a cure for cancer. but that more study is needed. that this came from cancer.gov says something. (to me) thanks for the headsup runnoft. i like that george orwell quote. everything is politics. :/ peace!

No worries FP,

Alternet is a great site for news about cannabis and industrial hemp. The reason more research is not done on the medicinal benefits of cannabis is because there is no profit for pharmaceutical companies - who are the main financiers of medical research - because they cannot patent a natural plant. They tried with that synthetic cannabis (can't remember what it's called... oh Marinol?) but patients said it didn't have the same effect as smoking a joint. Haha.

My admiration for Orwell knows no bounds. What a brilliant writer he was. I reread Nineteen Eighty-Four after September 11, 2001 and it was scary how close things were to the book. Almost like a manual.

agree agree agree. because the medical world operates in a capitalist paradigm (in the west) $$$ comes first and patients a far second.

as for george orwell. 1984 is a great read. yes. 9/11, the patriot act, trapwire surveilance warrantless wiretapping. the list goes on. you know we have always been at war with oceania right ;) on that note. i hope your behind a tor connection. peace!

I believe Marinol is 100% synthetic THC so it wouldn't have any of the anti-cancer properties of CBD and other cannabinoids. I'm not sure about the "can't patent a plant" concept. The US government already has cannabis related patents and other companies own patents on plants and organisms. I know it used to be impossible to patent living things but I don't think this is still the case. Feels a bit like a conspiracy theory to me which is being perpetrated by stoners who don't know better. Having said that, it wouldn't surprise me if the profit motive came into play somehow with pharmaceutical companies. Also, much of big pharma seems to be US based and there are laws which prevent research into the medical benefits of cannabis there - I have a feeling this is the main reason why science has not progressed very fast.

You are probably right salpon, I think I heard that on a documentary discussing why more research is not done. It had something to do with the latest research out of Spain. I've read so much lately that I've got information overload.

Hey FordP, don't forget the drones... now being deployed in US skies. It's like we live in a giant panopticon.

All the best to you all.
