Marijuana's a gift from God: mum's court defence

Recommended Posts

Cringe, please no woman.

All of the violence, wars, genocide, terrorism etc throughout history that has been justified by people in the name of their gods because it suits their agenda's.  Please don't drag our cause down into that gutter in a pointless attempt to get out of trouble.  Holy shit, religion is far more dangerous, and full of nutters, than drugs, keep them separate.

She knew the laws before making her choices, as an adult, she should shut up and cop it sweet like the rest of us.  Try to change the laws, not the consequences.

And to all the religious people who read this. I respect your right to your beliefs, so long as you respect my rights to not believe the same as you.  I just hate it when people use religion as an excuse or reason.

Most likely I'll go my way and you go yours I suppose drdave. :peace:

You are most welcome to pm me if you would like to understand.

Peace to you always in the name of Jesus Christ. v :sun:

That's cool Vinno, I haven't figured out how to pm yet.  I wasn't trying to offend anyone, and was definitely not putting down peoples religious beliefs.  I just get worked up when people use religion as a justification for their actions, and would prefer to keep religion and the legal fight over cannabis laws separate.

I was brought up in an extremely christian household, so I have a good understanding of peoples beliefs and christianity.  This is in fact part of the reason I get worked up about people using it for their own ends, as I know it is all about peace and love, yet some people twist it around to justify some very evil agendas (war, terrorism etc).  This isn't about the religion, it's about the people.  I know this is a benign cause she is trying to justify, so it is in a different ballpark, but it is still twisting personal beliefs to justify doing something that is wrong under current laws, and that is what I would prefer not to be associated with.  As adults we know the law, and if we choose to break it for whatever reasons, we need to be ready to accept the consequences if we get caught.

I might not believe in any religion, but I do firmly believe in peace and love and the general messages of christianity.  So peace back at you Vinno, and everyone else.

Ace it up old mate, I resemble that remark lol

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone. Just stirring the port looking for some debate.

I too smoke far too much pot and am definitely addicted. Also have had spates of addiction to nicotine as well. By saying the word weak I was trying to draw a similarity with the theory of Darwin and the survival of the fittest. Plenty of weaknesses offer opportunity to innovate to survive which is also a requirement for a species to survive.

I'm hoping you take the post as a whole with regards to the point I was making.

I think Ferrethead is just playing devil's advocate, but I strongly disagree with the suggestion that the opposite of prohibition is a Darwinian society. Such a society, where the weak are left behind, would probably be a far worse place to live than our current model. At the end of the day it comes down to your personal political philosophy, but I would much prefer to live in a society where the least fortunate, the poor, the sick and the elderly etc are offered support. Addiction should be treated as a health problem not a criminal problem.

Also, why the hate for this woman? She is being incredibly brave by pleading not guilty and standing up against our oppressors. Why should she just 'cop it'? I know I would fight as hard as I could if I was arrested for a cannabis related charge. This is exactly how laws are changed - in the courts. It's called case law. Legislation is the other way of getting laws changed (it starts as a Bill etc etc). I doubt she is going to win her case, but the more people who try to fight these unfair charges the more attention the issue will get in the media and soon we'll be on our way to having a mainstream debate about this issue like the USA is having at the moment.

I'm with you drdave, I don't think the religious argument is at all relevant.  This about human rights and the fact that we don't want a governement that can tell us what to put into our own bodies.

I respect that she is taking a stand, but unless she is willing to take it to the high court (pun intended), it's a waste of time really.

I'm keen to watch how everthing unfolds in the USA, it's getting really good momentum over there and I reckon once it's legalised in (most of) the US, Australia will follow suit.
