Voters in Colorado and Washington approved recreational use of marijuana last month, making them the first states in the country to do so even though use ...

Seems a bit interesting that the NSW medical commission has made the news about the same time this was happening, but I don't know what to expect. Last year while I was in San Francisco I tried to pop into a medical MJ doc, but didn't make it past the receptionist before I was asked for a CA drivers license. They didn't say there was any way to sign an affadavit claiming I had one, though I understand some do this. I didn't have time to keep trying until I found one that did, though.

Pretty psyched about Colorado. I'm going there for work in June 2013, and I have an uncle there who's pretty sympatico and already in their med system. Should be nice in the low-oxygen atmosphere up on the mountain! Slow burning...

Bummer dude.....at Venice Beach you can walk straight in with an Aus drivers license, give the hotel address as your 'permanent' US address and 30 min later you're standing at a dispensary drooling. At least this was the case Sept this year. You'll get asked at the dispensary the first time you buy if you're a toursist, to which a simple 'nah, just moved here' will suffice.

You may notice some locals watching for 'cool looking' tourists coming out of the med MJ clinic on the promenade who may offer you some other substances for recreational use. I asked the guy why he picked me and he said I was 'cool looking'.....don't know what that means, but it was hot and I've got a lot of tattoos. If you're that way inclined, grab one of their hip hop CDs, have a chat and you'll find they may open up. But remember that THAT shit is illegal.

I do, although it doesn't say California anywhere on it. Since most Americans only replace them once every 1-2 decades, I suppose the explanation that "I just moved here" would cover it...

It makes sense that some clinics would be more careful than others to do the beaurocratic record-keeping, and it is true that the one I walked into is prominently advertised in many venues - so they may be more likely to stick to the rules (prima facie, at least). Maybe I should ask around if anyone knows a more sympatico clinic with a lower profile.
