Drugs Seized As Officers Swoop

Recommended Posts

CANNABIS plantations with a street value of about $500,000 have been seized in the Walpole and Denmark areas recently.

Albany Detectives and regional police seized about 500 mature plants.

Some of the plants reached five metres high.

Police and detectives seized more crops as operations in the area continued yesterday.

The crops have been dispersed separately throughout one large area.

In five weeks the operation has resulted in seven men and one woman, aged between 20 and 58 years old, being arrested and charged with various drug offences.

They were from the Denmark, Walpole and Albany areas.

Some of the charges include cultivation of cannabis, possession of cannabis with intent to sell or supply and possession of cannabis.

The crops were strategically hidden in dense swamp country renowned for attracting tiger snakes.

Some larger plants had wire mesh around the trunks to protect them from native animals.

Great Southern Police District Superintendent John Watson said the plantation seizures were an extension of Operation High Tide.

The operation first came to the public eye last December when 21 drug dealers were arrested as a result of the operation.

Elaborate hydroponic setups were also found in raids throughout the region.

An owner of one of the set ups in Albany, Owen Morrison (22) of Ulster Road, pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis with intent to sell, possession of cannabis, possession of cannabis seeds and possession of smoking utensils in Albany Court of Petty Sessions last Thursday.

Court Prosecutor Acting Sergeant Dave Murphy said police searched Morrison's home on Febuary 14 and found an extensive hydroponics set up with 27 plants ranging up to 1.5 metres high.

About 135 grams of cannabis material was found in snap-lock bags as well as eight smoking utensils and two cone pieces.

Sgt Murphy told Magistrate Robert Glynn that Morrison had explained the cannabis was for personal use, but admitted to selling bags to his friends for $50.

Defence lawyer Kevin Prince said Morrison was a heavy user who admitted to smoking an ounce of cannabis a week.

Magistrate Glynn fined Morrison $1,200.

Supt Watson said the crops were put under surveillance and more arrests and charges were expected to be laid.

"This operation has certainly put a dent in the illicit drug trafficking trade and this has been seen when it came to searching premises," he said.

"There were smaller amounts of cannabis found and even less of powdered drugs.

"Hydroponic cannabis is 10 times the strength of the regular variety and it can cause drug-induced psychosis which can lead to permanent brain damage and other psychotic problems.

"I've said it before; we will walk up the river to tackle the wheelers and dealers who make life miserable for everyone else."

Supt Watson commended officers who ventured into the rugged terrain to seize the crops.

He said the public also played a big role in catching drug dealers.

"All information is kept confidential," said Supt Watson.

Because they aren't smart enough. The real crims like rapists and murderers are too difficult to catch and don't give them a payday. For every murderer there are a hundred thousand gardeners with crops waiting to be pilfered. The cops make an easy collaring and sell the pot to their contacts. Which is why they don't go after the big time drug lords. Those are their customers. Other major criminals like organised crime syndicates can easily afford to bribe the cops. So if you ever wondered why the prisons are chock full of small time growers and dealers you now know. Big fish eat little fish mate. Thats how the world works.

we're supposed to be evolving towards enlightenment

Who told you that?

I think Humanity peaked hundreds if not thousands of years ago. It's been downhill ever since. Evolution mate. Occasionally a fucking brilliant genius or physical superman will come along to show up Mr Average as genetic garbage but those people don't have any more kids than the rest of us and even they have numerous genetic defects. In nature 9 out of 10 animals die before they even reach adulthood. For good reason. The survivors are generally the cream of the crop. Theres no wittling away of the weak with the 6 billion plus people on this Earth. Back when we were still struggling to survive and didn't have dole payments it was another story. Back before modern medicine and police we had to hope we stayed healthy and our spiritual ties to family would allow us a few more precious years of life after we ceased to be useful hunters or farmers. A creative or spiritual person was valuable and not usually held back by law or permits. The Wright brothers didn't need licenses to build and fly a plane. Neither were registered pilots. Leonardo da Vinci used to send his butlers over cliffs with gliders. He went through a lot of butlers. We aren't getting more enlightened but only lazy. Its a cycle really. I reckon the Greek Philosophers represented the apex of human spiritualism. They talked about everything from gravity to life on worlds orbiting other stars. Its a damn shame so much is lost from that time. The Alexandrian Library would have been fascinating. Today most people are stupid. They face no challenges in life.

Its also in our nature to kill and make war. Billions of years of natural selection has that hard wired into our brains. Good thing too. People who can't fight will just get invaded by those who can. And there will always be conquerors and fighters.

What the hell is enlightenment anyway? Show it to me. The Dalai Lama? A man with no nation now. I think that proves my point.
