Outdoor Grow In Smart Pots

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys and Girls,

Im a long time outdoors grower but have a messed up back this season. Basically ive got a benign tumour that has grown next to my spine that needs removing. Im currently on the waiting list for an operation but its going to be a while as i dont have private health cover and I can still walk. Basically there are poor bastards worse off that need attention first.

The back pain rules out digging holes. Ive got some seedlings sprouting now in small pots . All are 75% sativa / 25% indica and have been grown in my area for over 5 yrs. Im thinking if I can fill these smart bags http://www.smartpots.com/ with soil and back my 4wd up to the growing spot I will be able to drag them out and transplant the seedlings. Water is very close nearby so wont be a big concern.

Im in too much pain to build fences this year so will take my chances.

Have no soil prepaired either, Id love to be able to just buy some bags of soil and poor it in my smart bags, any ideas on a good brand/mix?

Last but not least, how big should these smart pots be for my grow? Could I get away with a 7 gallon size or up it to the 15 gallon?

Thankyou

Those bags are apparently better than plastic pots bonza. Can you lift the 15gallon bags? Thats 30 litres + ! I have read somewhere that a bloke actually hung them in trees to keep them safe from critters. Bag size will determine plant size.

I use Canna Terra Professional potting mix for my growing. Not easy to get but you can find where it is sold by visiting http://www.canna.com.au/user/dealersearch last price I got was $40 for a 50 litre bag. Mixed with coarse perlite 30% it is the best I have used. Whatever you choose make sure you mix perlite with it. If the canna is too expensive for you, then get a premium potting mix, making sure there is very little or no wood chips in it.

Bad luck about your back. Good thing is, it is not malignent. Hope they find a bed for you soon.

brick,

Thankyou very much for that informative reply.

Even though they come with handles Ive got no chance of lifting 30lt and carrying it for more than a few metres. I want the biggest yield as I can get to make oil or a tinture for pain relief before and after my back operation so I can avoid opiates that Im currently taking. I cant afford the amount needed to make oil/tincture and cant smoke due to lung disease running in the family. But I can only do what Im capacle of physically so may have to drop to a ten gallon size or even a 7. A mate used smart pots indoors when he had heat issues and he said it made all the difference compared to the plastic.

Im even thinking I can wrap some chicken wire around each one to keep the hungry locals out until they are bigger.

I cant afford the amount needed to make oil/tincture and cant smoke due to lung disease running in the family. So even one big female or two would be amazing. Got 20 seedling popping out of the spoil now.

Heres hoping for a successful year,

Thanks for your kind words mate
