G'day everyone, I've just been to the electric calculator to get an idea how much it costs to run my 1600w set up, with a bit of a shock :|

Does anyone run a similair set up to mine? I'm also running a 6" centrifugal 18 hours of the day at the moment.

If yes, then what are the average prices of your bills when growing?

Thanks!

i done the same not long ago just to get a rough estimate of a 400w light...dont think the estimates were exactly right, take a look here if you like i asked a similar question not long ago, as i received an estimated bill, got a few replies so could give you a general idea, some around $160 for the quarter for a 400w system e.t.c

That puts my mind at rest now havik, some fairly similair set ups to mine in that thread. They were alot more managable then where I first thought I was heading!

Thanks for the tips El, I'm planninng to do a fairly big grow if I can manage it, so then I can just pack up my equipment for a while and light up in peace:)

Also do either of you blokes use an air con in the summer? I know there are alternatives, but it gets really hot where I'm from (like most places) in Australia. I think I might have to use one, even though i would really rather not!

I dont use an A/C. I would like to but cant for a number of reasons.

But an A/C is a good idea especially if its one big grow a year. Though if you just do one a year, spring or autumn would be a better time. They are a good way of getting air into your room and keeping the temps stable. You could have A/C, cooltubes and have those globes as close as you want to the colas without bleaching them.

What limits you El? If you don't mind me asking of course:p Yeah AC would do a great job put together with cool tubes, I've got my power bill in mind though, and after doing a bit of reading from other threads the general and logical outcome is they send it sky high:(

I've got a 6" centrifugal, would it be possible to put the carbon filter and fan inside the tent, having the fan suck through the filter, pushing through ducting attatched to the cool tubes, and out of the room? Sort of killing 2 birds with 1 stone so to speak?

I've currently got my ventilation set up like this: Ducting from tent>fan>silencer>carbon filter. But after reading through Kevs grow diary and seeing his results with a round-a-bout the same set up as mine, I wouldn't mind setting it up to be sucking through the filter.

Cheers.

You can suck through the filter, then cool tube. All I have in my tent is the light and filter.

Its all about efficiency to me and 1600w is alot of power. I would only need to do one grow a year on your set up I rekon, so if I was to do it 4 times a year thats a big bill and alot of Canna, I would just need to sell it to make it worthwhile I rekon.

I was growin aprox a pound a grow, one plant under 400w. That pound lasts me 3-4months untill next harvest. That pound costs me about $200 in leccy and another $100 in nutes. Now to me that is efficient.

On the flipside if you have 5 friends and you sell them a oz each for $200 (mates rates) andthere for got a grand. Maybe it would help ya hip pocket.

Ahhh okay, is your filter mounted then? I don't think I would trust the frame of my tent under the weight of my filter.

That's unreal effieciency EL :yahoo: nice work! Yeah it's a pretty big and daunting set up for a first timer I'll be honest, but I've always said all or nothing, so I'll just do it right once a year for the rest of mine :twiddle: Can't wait to try new strains/techniques next time around.

Yeah my filter is just mounted in the tent, hanging off the roof. The roof bows a little but not too bad.If ya handy you could screw some brackets to the corners for support.

power bills ? Pay them ... move into a residence with an elaborate air conditioning system....... premises with air conditioning systems generally have higher electricity consumption per month than homes without ..... and if you do the math you can even use the same kw's your air conditioning system uses !!! hey thats smart right ? it's all strategy, strategy is the key component of successful indoor cultivation ...

Thank yawww,
