200 Plants Found In Drug Raids

Recommended Posts

Two hundred cannabis plants worth a total of $370,000 were recovered as part of a three-day police operation.

Some of the plants, found in bushland south of Ulladulla, were more than two metres high.

A 25-year-old Yatte Yattah man was arrested in relation to the drug raids conducted on February 24, 25 and 26 between Bodalla in the south and Wandandian in the north.

Another 12 people of interest are under investigation and police said more arrests would follow during the week.

The joint venture between Shoalhaven Police and the Far South Coast Police involved 40 police officers and utilised a number of trail bikes, four-wheel drives and a police helicopter from the Police Air Wing.

The majority of plants were discovered scattered individually throughout state forest and private property in attempt to conceal them but were easily spotted by the police helicopter.

Most of the plants were found last Wednesday and Thursday.

Sergeant Andrew Clarke of Ulladulla Police said a very broad area of the coast was covered.

"With the assistance of National Parks and Wildlife Rangers we searched areas of National Park and State Forest where a number of the large cannabis plants were found," Sgt Clarke said.

"The operation also targeted private properties in the South Coast and Far South Coast areas."

The police targeted areas based on intelligence and information from the public.

"Officers covered known areas for cannabis cultivation and the police helicopter identified some areas of cultivation that we had not previously been aware of," Sgt Clarke said.

Police would not identify the exact location of the raids as the operation is ongoing and will continue for some time.
