Possible hydrogen peroxide toxicity

Recommended Posts

Hello every one .......

I thought it would be a great idea if I could use up some old perlite I had instead of opening a new bag .........so I washed it with some hydrogen peroxide and silly me didnt follow instructions on the bottle and just poured some in the laundry sink with about 20ltrs of water and 2 170mm black pots worth of perlite .....I washed the perlite and rinsed 4 times waited about 2-3 hrs then transplanted some little plants to gointo veg ...........

this is the result .........

i honestly doubt thats the problem. h2o2 would be easily washed out of your medium and if you rinsed 4 times it should all be gone plus i used to regularly use it at doses much higher than the bottle recommends and never saw anything like that.

also how long did it take for those symptoms to show up after the transplant as h2o2 degrades fairly quickly within 3 or 4 days it would probably be gone anyway

yeah pretty much turned up over night ...... haha i used heaps of h2o2 , usually my plants stay pretty healthy looking all through veg ...bit of light burn some times

the hydrogen peroxide was the only thing different I had done

flushed them last night and letting them dry out a bit before putting them onto a automatic watering system

I have been using Dutchmaster gold grow a+b , silica and superthrive at 3/4 strength ...I will be adding some humic acid to them mx and maybe increasing ph to 6 see how she goes ...was on 5.5 ...roughly, I use the liquid ph thing ...hopefully if it isnt the h202 then this might make some more trace elements available and hopefull make me girls look nice n green again

First up what was the %? Usually in oz it;s pretty diluted. Did it bubble up or fizz when you poured it on the perlite?

Secondly with four rinses it's highly doubtful that it caused your prob cuz like forgotiwashere i;ve used it in high dosages before without the effects you're seeing.

I'd be more inclined to think it's a reaction with your silica, but w/o knowing more details (like did you water with silica dosed water after you transplanted) it's hard to say.

peace

Hello Chato , hydrogen peroxide is at 50g/l , the water/perlite was fizzing couldnt hardly go into the laundry for the fumes .... the bottle of h2o2 say for sterilizing 5 drops per ltr and Id say that i put in probly 4/5 times the recommended rate ...wanted to kill what ever was in there ....I dosed with silica treated water after transplanting....do you think its the silica reacted with the h2o2 or just too much silica ..?

Hey Frazz , my ph testing liquid is about a year old dont know if its good ...I havent compared the readings with any other ph meter ...I will borrow one off a mate this arvo and compare ...hopefully its not out

Cheers Everyone lol Brimstond
