do my plants need more nutes?

Recommended Posts

Hey oldman, you seem to have a bit of tipburn ,so id say no. I normally water at around 1.2 ec at that stage in coco with either canna coco or nf coco without any burning ,but your D.M nutrients may vary a little depending on its nitrogen level. I tend to not let my coco dry out that much, the dryer it is the more concentrated the nutrient salts are in your medium ,but you will find a few opinions on coco watering schedules. My reccomendation would be to water it every second day at 1.1 - 1.3 ec with plenty of run off. Keep p.h between 5.5 - 6. ...good luck ..devil

Coco is way way to dry!

You are not feeding often enough and high enough.

1.4-1.5 is ideal for there development.....1.1 is too low.

I also suspect you are not watering enough to get decent run off.

20% is roughly what you are looking for.

Just remember the Manufacturers know much more than you me or the rest of us.

Trust there recommendations..

What sort of Coco are you using it looks like cheap shit unbufferred stuff to me...Could be wrong sorry if I am.

1. never ever let the coco dry out

2. P.H. is critical.

3. 20% run off

4. correct level of nutes

5. Never underestimate the devistation Fungus Gnats will cause always treat for them at least once every 10 days.

Wrong wrong wrong..

50% pot weight then water with nutes 1.3 to 1.5 E.C

Never use just plain water....If you want to flush do it with nutes lower E.C. if you think you have been feeding to high for too long and aim for 100% or more runoff.

This is where I believe it is a good idea to measure the EC of ya run off, which should be atleast 20% of what you put in, volume wise.

If the EC is lower than 1.2 or what ever you are feeding at the time then your plants are eating most of the nutes you give it. If the EC is higher then what you put in you may not be getting enough run off or your nute mix is too strong. The plants have too much food and alot of it is being left behind in the coco causing a salt build up.

Yes the EC of what you put in is very important and what yuou should focus on but the EC of the run off can answer questions. After a while of growing and understanding the plants and strain you dont need to check the run off EC unless you have a problem or suspect one.

Then by checkin the PH of the run off you can see where that is at. If you find it too high or low, expect ya coco to be full of nutes too more than likley. If you develop a nute lock out, you can feed all you like but the plants wont eat it.

If everything you put into your plant is spot on then all should be fine, EC of run off will be great. The media will buffer itself and keep the PH where it wants it. But thats not always the case.

If you buy a premuim coco, then how it looks and feels in the bag is about as much as you should let it dry out after watering. Thats a bit hard to do unless you buy it, thats how I check because most of my pots I cant lift. But lifting is the best method. After time ya just know how dry they are. If the top is dry then most of it will be just as dry because coco is like a sponge. It will spread the water out to get an even distribution.

I never give plain water in coco unless I flush for harvest. That might mean though I will add 5ml of a&b to 20l of water. So its pretty week, but can still flush out excess buildup.

Have you had a look at how coco is made on youtube or watched the Canna coco video which yiou should find on there? It should make you see why you should be using a premium coco not bunnings. I understand you may not have access to premium coco easily but I would try it, especially the next grow. I really suspect you coco is full of salt and locking out nutes and burning you plant still.

lots of SHIT advice.

never ever let the coco dry out lol ? .... if a plants healthy drying out the medium will boost metabolism ... its a master gardener's technique ..... its great to let the medium dry out completely bone dry atleast 3 times during bloom ... thus boosting metabolism .... afterwards you can boost the ec .... and the plants will lap it up when done correctly .... DM gold in coco is great but you should not be feeding it DM gold every single feed ..... try water/feed/water/feed and so on ... what you are seeing is a ph problem ... which is thus causing nutritional inadequacies ... just my 2 cents .. but what do i know :)

later'

EDIT -

what you might find buzzo ... is that you will always have to feed em neem every 10 days when you keep your medium soaking wet every single day..... the best way to fuck with a fungus gnat is by drying out the medium ..... the larvae cant survive without moisture ... you should also try baccillus thuriegensis (BT) ..... gnat off has it .... as do other products .... gnat off isnt expensive if you ever sat a class of biology ..... its a bacteria, you only need one bottle and can grow it continually (as a culture - duh) ...
