Lighting Question!

Recommended Posts

Sup people,

I'm new to the growing area and was wondering if you could give me some help with choosing some lighting. I want to use compact fluros.

My box specs are about a 1ft x 1ft. I'm only planning to have one plant atm. How much lighting would I need to keep the plant happy? Whats the best type of compact fluro for this?

Thanks B)

Hi

1ft x 1ft , what ya hell you gunna grow in that ?

Whatever you use in lighting make sure you have good ventilation , you want to close your eyes and imagine a beautifull cloud free day , you are standing in full sun and its about 27 degrees with a gentle breeze blowing , this is what you are trying to reproduce ,, bright light , no high heat and as fresh a air as you can pull through your box .

Very basic really , if the growroom is comfortable for you it will be great for them .

Hi

Mate , 1ft x 1ft is not big enough , if I were to grow 1 plant in as small a enclosed box as possible and still get some decent yeild of her , I would go about 3ft across x 3ft deep x 4ft high .

By the time you have medium and light there is not much room for much of a plant in 1ft box .

God luck

1' x 1' can be done although I would look into a small SOG or SCROG setup and would fit about 4 CF's in with a couple of 12v PC fans for cooling and ventilation, if the box is only 1' high the CF's would need to be horizontally fitted to save space.

While it is possible to grow in a space so small you will still need to buy your mj (unless you a very light smoker) as you will be looking at a dry yield of around an ounce per crop, a cheap two door wardrobe and a 430w Son-T-Agro HID light would provide you with a far higher yield for less effort.

One of the members at my home site recently harvested his Skunk Widow babies. 2 foot by 2 foot box roughly 5 feet tall. Using one 250W hps. His yield was 5.7 ounces. This is a very experienced grower that has tweaked his space to the max. He has adjusted the size of his microgrow to get the max yield per watt. This has turned out to be his ideal. This runs at a little over 60 watts per square foot. His ventillation allows him to get his lamp roughly 8 inches from the plant tops.

That is about as good a yield as you can get from this small of a grow. I think going much smaller than this limits plant size too much. 1 x 1 might be ok for a single plant, but you are probably going to have light penetration problems since your plant will have to grow up instead of out. Even using a scrog, your going to limit yourself a lot.

For stealth and decent yield, the best setup I ever saw was a scrog placed under a kitchen counter in one of the cabinets. It used a 250w HPS and was somewhere around 2 foot by 2-1/2 foot. The screen was about 18 inches from the bottom. IIR, the yields were around 1.25 ounces per square foot.

Best
