danger of buying seeds online

Recommended Posts

hello, I've never grown before so plz excuse the ignorance :P

but I was just wondering what's up with feminised seeds? Once you run out of them, do you just order more? Wouldn't you want to seed your own plants so you don't have to keep on take the risk thru the post again and again?

What's the right tradeoff between losing quality by having males and/or just always buying new feminised seeds? With the extremely small scale grower in mind.

I plan to buy regular seeds in a hope to get a male and breed my own seeds so i dont have to order from OS all the time .I will eventually sacrifice a crop to get seeds and have to deal with seeded average buds for awhile . I am guessing if you chuck 1 male in with 2-3 females you could end up with 100's of seeds and have a crack at breeding a new strain .

Keeping a mother plant alive for 365 days a year is not something i really want to do . Summer where i live would kill most plants in my grow area .

Cloning is the best way to go to keep a strain going that you love ! For me tho it will generally be a roll of the dice with seeds .

all the growers that i dont talk to anymore never keept mothers they just take clones 3 weeks into flower ready for the next round. me imo i would rather keep a mother that hasnt been to 12/12 but thats just me im a lil fussy :bongon:

it can be quite good because a clone from 3 weeks into flower will have all those really tight nodes from the buds starting to stack and the resulting clones will have loads of branches. i dont do it though simply because i dont want to have a bunch of clones and mature plants i like to keep plant numbers down.

Cheers for the tip Frazz that sounds like the way to go . Hope to give it a shot next year .

Keeping a plant alive from end of November till early march in my grow space wont happen unless i can find a plant that likes to live in a oven. So not matter what at least the 1st grow of every year for me will be from seed .
