Hydroponic drugs focus of phone-in

POLICE will hold a phone-in next month to gather intelligence on hydroponic cannabis operations.

 

The March 10 phone-in follows a similar operation last year, which resulted in more than 1000 calls.

 

That operation also resulted in a large amount of hydroponic equipment being seized and destroyed.

 

Next month's phone-in is in response to the large number of crops discovered in Adelaide over the past six months.

 

Police say there are 66 shops specialising in hydroponics equipment in Adelaide.

 

The believe many of these are selling equipment and fertilizers to hundreds of cannabis growers.

 

It has been established that many of these shops have clear links to organised crime.

 

While the Hells Angels outlaw motorcycle gang is linked to several shops in Adelaide, a large number of the businesses also have connections to people involved in the cannabis cultivation industry.

 

Police have seized more than 6000 hydroponically-grown cannabis plants and charged more than 900 people with cultivating cannabis for sale since laws changed a year ago.

 

Prior to this, people growing three or fewer plants hydroponically and deemed to be doing so for personal use were handed $150 fines.

is that phone in for SA only or other states too? makes me feel a bit nervous, its just when any fucking asshole who even suspects you are growing can dob ya in just to get revenge coz they dont like you or its an ex friend or partner etc .......

thats a good reason to only grow for personal use....if you sell someone a bag which they think is too small or shitty weed and they feel pretty pissed off at you...you could be in trouble
