Hey all :)

I know it's been discussed in a few threads here and there but for the life of me can't remember which ones - did a quick search too but the only thread i found wasn't too clear. With carbon filters can you set them up on either end of the fan or does it have to pull through the Carbon Filter.

All the info on the Carbon filters suggests you need to have: Air in the room >> CF >> fan >> ducting, with or without the ducting before or after the fan... Is this the case? Can you put the fan in front to blow through the Carbon filter? so: Air in the room >> fan >> CF >> ducting (with the >> being the direction of the airflow).

Sorry for the seemingly obvious question but just hoping to clarify.

Cheers, Brownies. ^_^

Hey mate couple of different options;

1. If ya using a axial inline fan you should suck through the filter as they're not rated for back pressure;

2. If using a centrifugal fan either sucking or blowing would be fine as its more a matter of personal preference.

One advantage of blowing through the filter is it can also be used as a silencer - not perfect but does help with sound deadening. Just make sure you match the filter CFM with the fan properly otherwise the filter will be useless.

Hope that helps :)

Ooh different opinion... Thanks Nici :)

Think I'll probably just stick to what the carbon filters suggest and have it suck through... Just can't imagine hanging a 150mm x 500mm carbon filter from my 'drobe's ceiling

I've got an 8" vent fan sucking out my drobe, pushing through the cf at the moment, with a little 120mm square fan sucking throughthe cf aswell.

Don't carbon filters only have the one opening? I've been looking at Mountain Air ones (just to clarify) and it was my understanding that there was the hole that connected to either your ducting or fan and then it sucked the air through the hundreds of little holes around the surface of the thing... Does your CF have an opening at each end or am I just mistaken in how they're made?

I have got mine setup to push/blow air thru it so mine goes

Grow Room Air -> Ducting -> CF fan -> Ducting -> Carbon filter ( sits outside the grown room kinda above the cupboard).

It works great for me cuts out the smell, and also makes the fan quieter.

Seems like there is no right or wrong way with this, if you get it in and it works then happy days :)

I have my CF out side the tent with the centri pushing air through it ,as nici said it does silence the noise somewhat.

Carbon filters only have 1 open end to connect to your ducting/fan .

Okay sweet, thanks Badseed :) ...and yeah that's what I thought so I'm a little confused as to how oldman has a fan blowing through and sucking through simultaneously if there's only 1 open end... unless he has a custom made one - that'd be neat!

Think once I've got all the gear I'll just see what fits best in the wardrobe :D
