realistically if the lamp isnt faulty u should get a cpl of years use out of that lamp.

just look after it, don't bump it and keep grubby fingers off of the cfl light tube itself.

so it is worth it.

What I'm really looking to do is get a decent amount of money from this crop and then upgrade, I don't have a job so money's tight.

 

But yeah, I've got another $120 to spend, so $55 of that will go towards the light and I'll probably spend the rest on nutes

i wouldnt be counting on making loads of cash from your first grow bud. there is a lot of variables and things that can effect yield and lighting is one of the major factors. just have fun with your first one and learn as much as you can. if you want to increase yield in a small space with your cfl's start researching scrog. that will really help you get the most out of your set up

So I decided to get a 6400k and a 2700k w/reflector kit, to save money and so that I don't have to worry about ordering more things once I've started.

 

But thanks for that idea forgetiwashere, I looked into it and it seems pretty doable, and a great way to increase yield

 

 

By the way, when should I start my growing? It's a bit cold in Brisbane right now, will that matter?

they will grow a little slower in winter but they will still grow. just make sure your water isnt freezing cold when you water them and they will be fine

How should I germ the seeds?

I don't have many so I want a solid method to use

I also know they need to be kept warm, but I don't know how I can do that

paper towel method or just straight into the medium you r using.... ya lights usually keep ya grow space warm in winter

I have always had a good success rate with soaking the seeds in the dark overnight, usually after 24hrs, the seeds have cracked and started their germination.

once the seeds have cracked and look like a little white tail is growing out of the slit, I plant them (around 2x the width of the seed) under the soil.

Within a few days they will pop up out of the soil.

 

I have used the above paper towel method also, then planted them, successfully. both are good.

There are a cpl of other good ways too, but i dont use them.

So I've got a small extractor fan with a carbon filter on it

a small desk fan for air circulation

a blacked out fish tank for the roots

a high strength bubbler

a 130w 6400k CFL for the veg and a 2700k for flowering

 

I'm using an unknown seed, I'm hoping for a nice yield
