New hydro setup - help

Recommended Posts

I don't have much money, so I'm trying to save where I can. I might buy a CFL for the veg and a HPS for flowering?

Ummm I would save your money and buy a convert bulb.

400 watt ballast - $80 approx some hydro shops will have second hand. For a bit cheaper.

HPS bulb 50 - 80$ - you can veg with it.

MH convert bulb $80 - can be used in the white ballast for veg the use HPS for flower.

Shade - if heat us s problem spend the money on a cool tube shade.

Oso fan - 10 - 20$ from Kmart or big W.

Food- what ever you can afford. Cheap food is ok but you get what you pay for.

Stay away from element food in DWC friend of mine uses it. And gee the amount of problems he has. Really unstable in that system.

carbon filter is a must mate. especially if your venting it outside. dont think for a second that the wind will blow it away. blow it straight into your neighbours yard or straight out into the street in front of your house yes but away no. do not underestimate the stench of a plant in full flower. especially in a little cupboard where it can tend to get hot cause heat increases smell IME.

on the cheap this is how i would do it

others might disagree but to me this would be an entry level set up. i know people do grow with less but in my opinion going with anything less than this would be a waste of money because i guarantee if you go cfl or cut any corners next grow you will just be upgrading and you will have wasted your money. do it right first time.

Hi joepad12,

I noticed that you are starting up.

You are really doing things on the cheap to begin with, this is ok.

I want to point out that even tho that bulb is awesome, and a good price, it requires an e40 socket base.

buying one of these isn't too hard, it is a standard hid lighting lamp base fitting.

but it will cost u up to $10 - $25 depending where u get it from.

If u are really good with soldering and u cant afford the e40 lamp base, u could carefully make a dodgy

light circuit, but i really really dont recommend it at all...ever.

alternatives are buying the lamp with an e27 lamp base or a b22 lamp base. but they will cost u about the same

as this bulb with an e40 light socket.

B22 130w 6400k cfl

E27 130w 6400k cfl

E40 130w 6400k cfl + lamp holder

or drop into ur local hydro store and get ripped off buying a flat pin e40 lamp holder...lol....everyone knows its a rip-off.

anyways....thought i'd take some of the pain out of your latest decision with a little thought for ya mate.
