UAE death sentence for British man on 'drugs charge'

A British man reportedly convicted of supplying cannabis in the United Arab Emirates is facing the death penalty, the Foreign Office says.

He has not been named but UAE newspaper the National says he is 21 years-old.

It said an Abu Dhabi court heard how he sold an undercover officer 20g of the drug worth 1,500 UAE Dirhams (£262).

The Foreign Office said it was in "contact with the British national and his legal team and continue to provide consular assistance".

"I can confirm that a British national is facing death penalty in the UAE," a spokesman said.

But he said the Foreign Office was unable to confirm details of the case.

The newspaper report said that the Briton had been arrested alongside a 19-year-old Syrian man.

The Briton's mother collapsed outside the court after the sentence was passed, it added.

How cheap is a Westerner's life in United Arab Emirates? ... how can any human being pronounce death upon another man for such harmless transaction

it is not for us here on earth to decided who lives and dies

Shame on the whole stinking, corrupt, Arab laws!

They have some extremely harsh drug laws, people have copped sentences like 4 years in jail for 0.003g of cannabis. Not to mention all the tourists who have been locked up for things like prescription meds, over the counter meds, porn, etc.

All this while slavery and sex slavery trade flourishes, although both are officially illegal. I'm sure those sheiks and govt officials get the share of young girls. Some Dubai married men even have special apartments known as "shag pads" where they keep their slaves. Captive women kept for raping and beating. Yet they are considered to be more liberated by comparison to other Islamic counties in that region. What a fucking joke.

To me the problem is obvious, as it is with the more extreme nations like Iran. You've got countries that have legal systems based on the Koran. Sharia Law allows just about any injustice you can think of.

Living in a Islamic theocracy is about as far from democracy you can get, on par with a totalitarian dictatorship.

I'm sorry if this comment offends anyone some but what else would you expect from a religion whose prophet was a pedophile (married a 9yr old) and also had 13 wives and sex slaves. IMO Islam is an evil barbaric religion. I don't have a problem with most Muslims, but I do have a major problem with their evil sick fuck religion.

Savages. Those countries are really behind.

Take Iran for instance, if your female and you have sex with other females,, the punishment is neither arousal nor elation, but rather a public hanging or a good stoning to death.

I wonder how many years from now, countries like Iran will become like Australia and Australia will adopt a softer approach to cannabis use like most european countries.
