Good soil mix

Recommended Posts

40% sphagnum peat 20% worm castings 20% good compost 20% perlite.

If you add any ammendments guano , seed meal , blood and bone ( replace with shell meal if animals are an issue) ect, you will need to let this mix cook for a few weeks to cool down as it will burn if planted fresh into.

This isn't for seedlings either just kick me off in a 80/20 peat/ castings mix then transplant into your mix.

Good luck.

( searles real premium will do it real cheap but I don't like the slow release in it.

Should be able to source everything you need between a good landscaping supply and a good nursery. Farm feed supply stores are good for lots of different goodies, seed meals ect. carefull if you go with any bird shit (chook duck seabird ect) they are quite hot and will def need to cook for at least a month.

Alternatively you could make up just the peat / casting / perlite ( can replace peat with coir fibre) and feed the plant yourself with a product like canna terra. (the castings will provide for the first few weeks then you can start to feed them manually)

Hi Chopperw- I'm collecting a few 'gredients for a soil mix myself. I have bought some of the local potting mix, dolomite, some peat, perlite, and I've been using some stuff called dr. grow it all on general veggie gardening it is working pretty good. I think they are a sunny coast co. and its all organic and I get 8 buck refills. sounded like an ad but it ain't. I am confused as to the ratios of composition? gonna get the mixer out and chuck in a brew...any ideas? We got enough gear in there? Cheers Vinno ...mostly how much of what..
