Drug set-up detailed

Recommended Posts

A 45-YEAR-OLD man was charged after police found a sophisticated underground hydroponic set-up at two Strath Creek properties, a Bendigo court heard yesterday.

Gheorghe Dancints, of Norman Street, St Albans, yesterday pleaded guilty in the Bendigo County Court to four charges relating to the possession and trafficking of cannabis. The court heard Danci was arrested in January, last year, after police raids on properties in Strath Creek and St Albans uncovered about half a kilo of cannabis and two hydroponic set-ups located beneath floorboards in backyard sheds. Prosecutor George Slim said police discovered large underground water tanks, growing tubs, lamps and an "elaborate" watering system when they raided Dancis' two Strath Creek properties on January 23, 2003.

An underground passage located beneath a garden shed at a Falls Road property led police to one of the hydroponic set-ups where remnants of cannabis were also found.

Mr Slim said a search warrant executed on Dancis' Murchison-Spur Road property later that day also uncovered a similar cannabis growing operation, hidden beneath a removable piece of carpet in a backyard bungalow. Danci was arrested on January 27 during a police raid on a flat in St Albans, where quantities of cannabis were found wrapped in a table cloth in a backyard shed and hidden in a wheelie bin. The court also heard significant amounts of money had been deposited in Dancis' bank account "day in and day out" around the time of the trafficking activity. Defence lawyer Tony Trood told the court Danci had purchased both Strath Creek properties from his brother and had then been made aware of the concealed hydroponics equipment. Mr Trood said the amount of cannabis found was relatively small in the scheme of things and asked that a suspended sentence be imposed given Dancis' "comparative lack of prior history". But Judge Leslie Ross described Danci as being "in the thick of marijuana distribution".

"This community is at war with drug trafficking and the amount of work this court has to deal with on the basis of drug use and abuse is frightening," he said. Danci was remanded in custody to be sentenced at a later date.

Sheeeeeiiiiit !.... they're still out there .. those vociferous evil anti drug crusaders .... & just when I was beggining to relax... enjoy my homegrow.

single minded , uncompromising , incompasisonate narrow perspectives of someone in power .. will do a lot of damage to just ordinary folks ... frightening . how the law can just take what it wants ... do what it wants ... all in the name of justice ... FASCIST seem too appropriate in this instance.

DON"T THEY KNOW THE WHOLE FUCKING PROHIBITION THING IS WRONG !...
