we always used a day or two of COMPLETE darkness at the end of the cycle before cutting if taking the whole thing down, the only thing to be careful of is if you had any problems with PM in the grow the darkness can sometimes bring back small patches of it, which totally sux. I actually am a big fan of a technique i call "peg-leg" (don't ask, long story from a sour grape strain) but basically we will take the top part that is super resin covered and leave the rest for 2 1/2 weeks and drop lights. this takes some extra techniques to insure the plant's vitality and roots don't go to crap but can seriously improve overall quality of the yield.
