PK 13-14 in Potting Mix

Recommended Posts

Howdy Folks, I have a couple of plants under lights in a tent growing in potting mix and am getting to the stage when pk 13-14 should be applied, it's a bit of a guess as the strain is unknown so when to pick the right time (week 5 or 6) will be a guesstamite :pardon:..

What i am hoping one of you can help me with is.. on the instructions that come with the bottle it only gives instructions for hydroponic medium and it states 1 - 2 ml to your nutrient tank untill the desired EC is reached..now that is a bit confusing to me growing in potting mix but it does state on the bottle that it is suitable for use on ALL media so i am assuming that it will be ok in my situation. Should i water it into the potting mix at say 2 ml per litre? and if so should i only do it once or every day for the alloted week? maybe twice in the week? should i be using it in conjuntion with the fertilizer i am using (canna flores)? i really don't want to screw up this grow, the plants are looking very nice at this stage and i would like them to finish strongly..

Any info would be very much appreciated..

Cheers

Z

Yes any nutes that you use in hydro can be used in soil. If you go with a low EC of about 0.7 you'll be fine. Not knowing how big your pots are or what is in your soil mix I can only guess as to the amount of nutrient solution you need to give them. I'd say about 500ml per decent sized plant. You will want to see how the plant responds before giving them more. You don't wan't to over fertilise the plant so if you are also going to use another fert then alternate between the two when feeding your girls. I have used hydro nutes on my soil grows b4 to boost early vegetative growth and later to lightly feed flowering. For Genereal Hydroponics Flora series the dose of nutes is 1/4 of the recommended dose for hydro and this gives and EC of 0.665 mS. The EC of my water is 0.015 mS and 9ppm. I personally have never used pk 13/14 so I can't comment on it.

Good luck with your grow.

Thankyou for taking the time to write this mate, much appreciated.. Looks like i need an EC meter, i just ordered one from china, ($10.00) that should clear things up a bit, i have just ordered a bottle of canna boost as well after reading some very good reports about results so i will print out your advise and do as you say, that's exactly what i needed. Thanks again

Don't want to rain on your parade however you may want to be careful with the inexpensive pH and EC meters as they may not be entirely accurate when compared to a more expensive (or well known) brands.

The issue you have here is you've forked out your hard-earned for top quality nutrients/additives but if you aren't giving your plants the right amount, it may be all wasted :(

Be careful, I'd go by the dosages on the canna calculator and see what they say the EC should be and compare it to your EC meter just in case it's dodgy.

Have fun growin :)

Also it's important to calibrate your meters according to instructions keep readings accurate.

I think those $10 ones are factory calibrated only, so you won't be able to re-calibrate it.

Stix87 is on the money with his Blue lab truncheon. Very reputable.

I am actually looking at getting a nutrient monitor myself. The one I'm looking at is like the pic below.

Control Wizard CWP 24-7 pH / TDS / Temp Nutrient Meter

Cost about $200 on ebay and comes from the US. I know it seems like a lot of money but it's perfect for my bubbleponics setup.

I wonder if anyone has had experience with this particular meter?

Maybe I should spend a bit more and get the Blue Lab Combo meter coz it does EC, pH, ppm, and temp.
