help with seedlings

Recommended Posts

I have some seedlings that just broke through the rockwell cubes yesterday afternoon. Today I noticed that the two "leaves"on a couple of seedlings have what can be best described as putting their arms up. Both leaves reaching for the sky.

They are in a humiity dome, with 2 x 20watt fluro's about 6" above the dome. I also have a fan blowing on them. They are in a cupboard, with the door open. I have been watering them with "pure water" and also put a small amount of water in the base (not in touch with the rockwool)

The taproot on one of the plan ts have broken through the bottom of the rockwool cube, and is about 2 mm long, curled like a pigs tail.

Is it heat that is making them reach for the sky?

Today was rather hot, however the temp in the cupboard would be arfound 35d celcius.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks

I would dump the humidity dome and fit a good extraction fan into the cupboard, if you can afford it consider an air conditioner for the room the cupboard is in, if the sun shines directly on the window(s) of the room you could get some reflective or tinting film for it/them.

Sounds like they are doing well.

I agree, loose the dome. The seedlings will stretch to about two inches high... that is fairly normal. they need more light now, and 6' above a presumably 6' high dome is doing no good. Get them closer to the light, and when they get their first real leaves in a couple of days, give them a little bit of food. By a little, I mean no more than 1/4 strength nutes.

Gongrats on the new babies. ;)
