Aussie's Outdoor Super Soil Recipe

Recommended Posts

G'day everyone, :toke:

Considering the frost is now here, It's about time to start preparing the soil for next growing season.

So here's basically what you will need:

Ingredients

  • Organic Bagged Soil (A good cheap soil from bunnings)
  • Organic Bagged Compost
  • Worm Castings (Doesn't really matter, I used 'wormtec' for this particular mix)
  • Horse Manure
  • Cow Manure
  • Chicken Manure (Rabbit or other manure will also work fine)
  • Blood & Bone
  • Osmocote Plus Organic's - Plant Starter (Or anything with fish & seaweed)
  • Dolomite Lime
  • Coco-Fibre
  • Mycorrhizal fungi
  • Worms
  • Dead Fish (Optional)
  • Perlite (Optional)

Method:

1. Gather ingredients together & Find yourself a nice patch of dirt.

2. Get a shovel, Now become good mates with that shovel and mix the soil thoroughly.

3. Mix together all the ingredients by adding them into the mix one by one (layering). Equal parts soil, compost & Coco-fibre, Worm castings & Manure you can add as much as you prefer (But not too much!), Add the blood and bone, Osmocote, Dolomite lime & Mycorrhizal fungi according to directions on pack, Perlite you can also add just to your preferred liking.

4. Once you've finished doing all that, It's time to mix the soil thoroughly and try not to leave any large clumps of anything behind when mixing.

5. When finished mixing, Introduce the worms & Dead fish to the soil (bury the dead fish).

6. Now let mix decompose for more than a few months & Allow time for the p.h to stabilize. Whilst waiting a few months, Mix the soil regulary with a shovel or preferred tool.

7. All that's left is to wait until growing season & Get your babies planted!

Cheers for reading, Peace.

G'day Mav, :bongon:

Sure is mate, just go down to bunnings & buy yourself some Osmocote plus organic - potting & planting mix. I've been using this for a while now & it works great but it needs a few things added to it to make sure no deficiency's accur. Add these ingredients and your all sweet to go:

  • *Worm castings
  • *Organic compost
  • *Organic bagged cow manure
  • *Dolomite lime
  • *Coco
  • *Epsom salts

Optional Ingredients:

Blood & Bone

Perlite

Mycorrhizal Fungi

Hydrocloral Clay Pellets

Azomite Trace Minerals

(Note: Ph is the key to success, if growing in soil an ideal ph would be around the range of 6.5-6.8)

Hope that helps out at all & best of luck in the future.

G'day again, :bongon:

Just thought I'de post up a more improved & simplified version of the super soil recipe.

Improved & Simplified Soil Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Osmocote Plus Organic - Potting & Planting Mix ( Or a good quality organic potting soil)
  • Organic Bagged Compost (Good quality, no bark)
  • Organic Bagged Manure - (Cow, Horse, Chicken, Rabbit, Sheep etc..)
  • Worm Castings (Doesn't really matter about the brand)
  • Blood & Bone (No added potash)
  • Epsom Salts (Any brand will do)
  • Dolomite Lime
  • Coco-Fibre (Coco bricks can be used also)
  • Mycorrhizal Fungi
  • Slow Release Organic Fertiliser (Optional)
  • Perlite (Optional)
  • Hydrocloral Clay Balls (Optional)
  • Worms

Method:

1. Gather ingredients together & Find yourself a nice patch of dirt.

2. Get a shovel, Now become good mates with that shovel and mix the soil thoroughly.

3. Mix together all the ingredients by adding them into the mix one by one (layering). Equal parts soil, compost & Coco-fibre, Worm castings & Manure you can add as much as you prefer (But not too much!), Add the blood and bone, Epsom salts, Slow release organic fertiliser, Dolomite lime & Mycorrhizal fungi according to directions on pack, Perlite you can also add just to your preferred liking.

4. Once you've finished doing all that, It's time to mix the soil thoroughly and try not to leave any large clumps of anything behind when mixing.

5. When finished mixing, Introduce the worms to the soil.

6. Now let mix decompose for more than a few months & Allow time for the p.h to stabilize. Whilst waiting a few months, Mix the soil regulary with a shovel or preferred tool. (Ideal ph range of 6.5-6.8 is perfect)

7. If using pots, cover the bottom about 1-2 inches with hydrocloral clay balls to allow for better drainage.

8. All that's left is to wait until growing season & Get your babies planted!

(Note: Do not plant directly into this, combine with either existing soil or potting mix & Ph is important you can give the plants as much fertiliser as you want, but if the ph is not correct than nutrient lock-out will accur.)

Cheers for reading & Enjoy the fruits of your labour.
