Fan leaves

Howdy Folks, I am having a bit of a problem with crowding in the tent, hopefully the situation will resolve itself a bit when i pull some males out in the next week or so but the light is not really reaching the bottom branches very well. I was thinking about clipping some of the huge fan leaves to let some light through. Is there any process that i should follow such as only take one from a pair? do the big fan leaves really do much as far as light absorbtion? i would imagine they are necessary for good growth but is it going to hurt if i remove as much as 50% ?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes they do.

Yes it will.

 

If you expect to be removing males in the coming weeks, leave the leaves alone until you know how many plants you have to flower. Patience is one of the skills you need to develop in order to become a proficient grower.

Hi Louise, Nice to meet you.. Thank you for taking the time to answer me.. I will do as you say and leave the lovely big leaves in place for now, i am hoping that i will be pulling four or five males out and that will leave me four or five in there and they should have enough room to grow nicely, hopefully i havn't left it overly long changing to twelve hours as i only have 2 metres in height to play with. Patience .. probably not one of my strong points but i am learning, and at my age weeelll..

If ya havin few troubles ya can do abit of LST training. what this does id ties down the main cola or colas more to the level of the lower brtanches thus giving them all the same amount of light:)

also your light loses intensity the further away from the light you get so effectively u would be cutting off those big solar panels getting strong light in order to let weaker light onto probably less effective panels. thats how i think of it anyway.

Thank you for the help here guys.. I will leave the leaves alone and hope they show their sex pretty soon, after i get the boys out it will give me some much needed room and then if necessary i can get onto tieing them down to share the light It will be a lot better on subsequent grows as i will be cloning the best girl and not bothering starting from seeds anymore..
