Crime tip leads to drug bust

Recommended Posts

CARAVANS at a Wolvi property could not hide nearly a kilo of cannabis or guns from Gympie police yesterday.

Raids, undertaken as part of a massive police operation targeting dangerous drugs, turned up the goods when police netted nearly one kilo of dried marijuana, plants, utensils and weapons.

Gympie plainclothes Senior Constable Craig Kable said a tip-off about the stash of drugs and guns came from Crime Stoppers and police used the information to bring in the haul.

"Two men living at the Wolvi address have been charged with the alleged offences," he said.

Snr Const Kable said the drying cannabis was found inside caravans on the property and some ground-up marijuana was found stashed inside a canister.

Also found was a bong and pipe used to smoke the cannabis.

Seven officers were involved in the raid.

"We've been going since 7am this morning (Monday)," Snr Const Kable said.

The Wolvi warrant was conducted just after 10.30am yesterday with the help of plain- clothes officers, Gympie Criminal Investigation Branch and officers from Maryborough's Tactical Crime Squad.

Snr Const Kable said two men at home when police arrived at the Wolvi address were charged with the alleged crimes.

The men, aged 53 and 34, were placed on nine charges relating to the alleged find - including the rifle and .22 calibre weapon, production and possession of dangerous drugs.
