Newbie has some questions! Help plz.

Hehe, Hey guys, i been hunting a few forums and decided this one looked best and people seem very down to earth (pun intended) ! So anyways..I'll soon be getting my hands on some seeds (about 20).. for germination and then i guess we'll shove them in some pots (i believe most are saying put 2 in each pot ) and obviously when the time comes seperate the males from fem's and what not.. My questions are :

 

1) If the seeds you are given have been picked out of buds .. does this dampen your hopes of germination ?

 

2) What is the life period generally on seeds?

 

3) My mate who i will be growing with seems to think we can grow over lamps indoor (plants in soil setup) and it wont take so long..how long would it take from germination to full flower in a indoor environment with only lamps for lighting.. would we require timers ?? ..

 

4) what kind of lamps are suggested for such a setup im assuming we will have between 5-10 plants if they all germinate ..and what else would be required for this setup? .. I hear discussion of fans , pipes..etc..what is required in this basic setup ..

 

5) What nutrients are required in a basic setup.. and is there specific pot sizes .. do they change as they plant grows or do you just use the biggest ones you can find? I'm completely new to this but im very keen to learn !

 

6) How often should a indoor plant be fed/watered ..if we are only using lamps for lighitng/heat...

 

 

There are my questions..hopefully some of you can answer them so i have an idea of where to start ... If there is anything I have missed please feel free to let me know !

1) all seeds have been picked out of buds, most cultivated drug strains dont lose their seeds and they have to be picked out by hand. regardless of where your seed comes from it was picked out of a bud by someone.

 

2) you dont wanna leave them laying around more than 2 years, trying and get them going within a year of getting the seeds, but i have heard of 9 yr old cannabis seeds germinating.

 

3) yeah you can grow indoors with lights but the lights needed are fairly expensive to grow a decent amount of bud, You use HID lights either HPS or MH, you buy them from hydroponic stores. You can use regular straight flouros or those compact flouros that go into normal sockets, but you'll need a fair few to get any decent yield and buds outta them. and yeah you will need a timer, plants need a vegetative time where they grow which is usually lit 18hrs on 6 off or 24hrs on a day. then they need a period of lights on 12hrs on 12hrs off to flower, which takes 1 and 1/2 to 3 or even 4 months. the crop can take anything between 8 weeks and 5 months, depending on alot of things.

 

4) woops I should read ahead, answered this one above. Anyway, most personal growers use a 400w HPS this fits good in a space up to about 1.1m x 1.1m, you will need fanss the lights build up alot of heat, especially if they are going in a cupboard of some sort, exhaust fans.

 

5) During the vegetative (growing) period you want a regular garden type fert with high nitrogen, something like thrive or seasol or maxicrop will be fine, and during the flowering stage you use different nutrients with higher levels of phosphorous and pottasium, like food for flower gardens, orchids etc...... shit called bloom boosters and stuff. Even easier though is going to a hydro store and getting some nutrients, veg and bloom nutes, alot of them are made for growing dope with.

 

6) I'm not a soil grower, but you want your soil so its dry on top but slightly moist a cm or so under that, try to water tilll runoff starts each time, with a good soil mix you'll need to water around every 4 days and up to every day while in bloom.

 

oh and dont put 2 seeds in one pot if you had fem and male in one pot then you would severly disturb the female root system ripping the males uot, and 2 females in one pot would get rootbound if its not a big enough pot.

 

If I was you I'd put 20 seedlings in 20 150mm pots veg em all up under a 400w to about a foot high max, then cut lights to 12/12 remove the males as the show and pop females into bigger pots by cutting bottom few inches off pot and planting into 250-300mm pots or so.

Hey guys thanks for the warm welcome, on the subject of warm, how much would these 400 watt lamps set me back, for like a cheapy brand/reasonable quality .. and how many would i need? for say an 8 plant setup? i take it you only need the one lamp over the 8 plants for the first 2 or so weeks?

A 400W light kit would cost around $200 depending. I paid $250 for mine with adjusta shades, but I think that was a ripoff. You might yield 5-10 ounces under a 400W light. How well you fill out your growspace with bud sites is more important than plant numbers. A 400W light would cover a 600 x 900 area, or 800x800. something like that.

Well my question is seed related, i hear alot about people being ripped off buying seeds online from o /seas and i can only assume you cant buy them in aus unless you know someone..and i dont . meh! and if i wanted to yeild a pound from each plant ..and i wanted about 8 plants.. how many lights would you guys recommend, and how powerful? and how much are those lights worth? (Cheaper the better) , and if i ran 8 x *lights suggested* with the*wattage suggested* , would that look sus on a power bill? I would be growing in soil indoor..
