NSW man didn't notice cannabis on his land

Recommended Posts

A landowner didn't notice cannabis plants growing on his north-western NSW property for at least six months.

Officers from Castlereagh Local Area Command visited the rural property of 25,000 hectares at Lightning Ridge shortly after 11am (AEST) on Thursday.

When they arrived, the owner told police he had found a marijuana crop on an isolated section of his land.

"It's a very vast expanse of land and it's heavily watered with pine trees and the crop was in amongst the pine trees," Detective inspector Scott Russell told AAP.

"It was a well set-up, elaborate system.

"It's been there for some time, possibly up to six months.

Police seized and destroyed a total 136 plants, with a street value of more than $200,000.

A crime scene was established and investigations are continuing.
