POLICE have made one of the biggest seizures of cannabis plants in NSW, worth more than $20 million, during a pre-dawn raid of a property in the state's west.

 

NSW Police arrested 12 people in the raid of a property 30km north east of Gilgandra, near Dubbo.

 

More than 200 armed specialist police swooped on the property about 6am (AEDT) today, seizing hundreds of mature cannabis plants in a plantation roughly the size of three football fields.

 

Police said the raid had dismantled a significant and well-organised drug syndicate aimed at dominating the drug trade in NSW.

 

The 12 people arrested were taken to Dubbo police station for questioning.

 

Drug Squad commander Detective Superintendent Paul Jones said today's police operation was one of the largest conducted by the NSW drug squad.

 

It followed several months of covert surveillance and investigation by Strike Force Keay.

 

He said police had uncovered several well-camouflaged crop sites within bushland on the 890-hectare property and suspected there were more.

 

"In terms of the size of the crop, we've not seen anything of this scale in NSW since the early 90s," he said.

 

Det Supt Jones said the cannabis was destined for distribution in the Sydney and interstate markets.

 

Police estimated it would take at least a week to destroy the crop.

Its so sad to think all the outdoor weed is being haunted as hydro-weed isnt as enjoyable to smoke.

Nice looking plants though. Mabey cops are getting honest these days. Times past, a cop would only bust a grow at harvest time. Those girls needed a few more months.

mtcw, that was 1 very well though out crop, but i think

the media and the cops have and r a bit out on there estimates of 20-50mill$, the reason i say this is beacuse none of them plants were in

flower yet they were still growing so to have 50k of plants without any buds puts the crop at street value as very little cause no one pays for leaf!!

were as if they waited 8-10 more weeks when fully mature and
