$1m sex club plan

By RAJIV MAHARAJ

January 25, 2004

A TERRITORY businesswoman plans to open a $1 million exclusive "gentlemen's club" in Darwin before the end of the year.

Therese Miller, 30, said the club would not be a brothel but a "licensed retreat where men can come after work, relax and have a few drinks in the company of beautiful women".

She said sex workers from Sydney would be available for $170 an hour or $150 for 30 minutes. Locations at Winnellie have been earmarked for the new venue which by law has to be away from residential areas and schools. Entry fee will be $20.

The club will also have a "domination chamber" and a "mistress" on duty to oblige customers with these and other sexual fetishes.

"It will be very tasteful," Ms Miller said.

"We are talking about a fully-licensed premises, with women in lovely lingerie socialising with men of all backgrounds -- from the corporate high-flyer from interstate to local tradesmen.

"There will be sex services that can be arranged, but if you want to have a drink and relax, you can do just that and nothing else.

"There will be security, hot meals and all the things you expect to find at any other club anywhere else.

"It's going to be an upmarket venue, but one where the ordinary bloke can come to as well and not feel out of place."

Ms Miller, who moved to Darwin from Sydney three years ago, said three interstate investors would be putting up the $1 million.

She said they did not want to be named until applications are lodged with the NT Licensing Commission.

"They are respectable businessmen investing in the NT. There are no links to drugs or organised crime.

"It is to cater for men in a city with heaps of men and hardly any women."

Ms Miller said she had established and managed similar venues in Sydney.

"The clubs employ bar staff, security, cooks, cleaners and office staff."

She said investors wanted to gauge public opinion before lodging paperwork.

"We hope to open for business in September."
