Advertiser/DailyMail article 9/1/04

Recommended Posts

My Dad began the new year by commenting on my plants and handing me a clipping from The Advertiser Friday, Juanuary 9, 2004 (p21) - yes, full page. I don't live with my parents, I'm well, well over 18.

I don't read this newspaper because I don't trust it (and I think newspapers use a lot of paper). Can anyone comment on the article or on the ownership structures of these papers. Are they reputable ?

Here is The Advertiser. I couldn't work out how to find the article text, entitled "Dancing with the deadly weed".

My father believes everything he reads in the paper and this is a one paper town (or country, perhaps). I'd like to know if he's being fed bullshit. Thanks.

Sorry mate, I looked and looked and looked, couldn't find the article. A good publication for you to pass onto your father would be "The emperor wears no clothes". Just ask him where he's getting his information from, and then when he asks you, have something to say as well.

I have one thing to say about any News Media paper tho. They are about as complelely and utterly corrupted and as far from an independent source of information as you could get, and still call yourself a "news" organisation.

News limited has been shown time and again, over and over, to be as about as concerned with their various aquisitions (i.e. the papers, television stations, etc) editorial independence and fact checking as they are concerned about the amount of trees which are cut down to make them. That is to say, they have, do, and will continue to influence heavily all puplications owned by their organisation, and if the boss don't like it, it don't get published, or something nasty is said about it. It's wrong...

Well, that was a few things. But I think you get the point. Perhaps your father would be interested in contacting the ABC Media Watch program about whether they think that news limited papers are impartial and independent. :D I already know the answer, but it may sound better coming from aunty.

Perhaps even send him over on the net to Marijuana Australiana, we need people like that to post and learn about cannabis, and to then go on and spread the word... I'm not suggesting that you do this straight away, but perhaps when he's learned a bit more about the absolute war crime that is the war on drugs and cannabis prohibition then you could point him there, if he's amenable to learning.

"A closed mind must always be viewed as an open one, and argued and debated with as such, as if it were the opposite, then we should all be likely to go around with very closed minds, and closed lips as well."

anon.

Oh, and one more thing mate, just thought of this. The fact that your father feels that he should need to argue his case with a news article, no doubt with little to no factual evidence within it whatsoever, or at most severely skewed and manipulated evidence, then I feel he may be closer to believing in the realities of cannabis than it may appear. In short, he doth protest too much. :(

Hope that helps mate, see if you can take a pic or find another link of that article, I'd love to dissect it and see what kinda crap they've been trying to pull... :( :D
