Cannabis production damages the environment!

Recommended Posts

Don't you just love this bullshit US properganda.

Fiction: Drug Production Does Not Damage the Environment

The illegal growth and cultivation of marijuana has destroyed and contaminated thousands of acres of public lands. To plant marijuana, growers chop down trees and burn off plants, destroying natural wildlife habitats. The pollution continues when toxic pesticides, fertilizers, and insecticides seep into creeks and municipal watersheds.

Yep I can totally agree with all the above facts and that these ILLEGAL drug cartel grows damage national parks like Yosemite in the US.

According to the USDA Forest Service, the number of marijuana plants eradicated from national forests more than quadrupled between 2004 (718,447 plants) and 2008 (3,079,923 plants).

What Law Enforcement Is Doing

The good news is that law enforcement has eliminated many meth labs and large marijuana cultivation operations on public lands, decreasing the amount of available drugs.

WTF? So why then does all this successful law enforcement have the efffect of quadroupling the number of plants seized in just four years?

Hmmm did they ever stop and think the problem might be because they made the fuking plant illegal in the first place.

Can they see that plants grown legally as commercial crops could fix this problem of illegal crops destroying their national parks.

A) Nah lie to the public tell them that mrijuana is the problem outlaw it, and create a business oppurtunity for drug cartels to grow at least 3million plants/annum.

C) Then lie tp the public again and tell them that (the problem they created) marijuana destroys the environment.

D) Lie once more by telling the public that law enforcement is winning this war on drugs because they managed to get a fraction of this illegaly grown cannabis.

This type of bullshit relies on fallacious logic and makes for great news stories. Here is my fallacy of composition example I created to expose this hype/bullshit.

1) Illegal Marijuana cultivation detroys the evironment of a national park.

2) Therefore the cultivation of Marijuana will damage the enivronment

It's not like farmers have to grow canola in national parks. If they dd it wouldn't be reasoable to blame the canola plant for the damage to the environment. The damage to the environment would be directly the result of the governments anti canola laws.

If pot were legal and grown commercially like any other crop then this whole crappy argument quickly falls apart. It's not like people run around waving their hands in the air screaming about how apple cultivation is destroying the environment.

Nice article.....wonder how much carbon they create flyin the choppers round to search for the Cannabis in the first place.....lol

Can see their point on chemicals and ferts, and clearing........some commercial growers dont give a shit, will dump shit into the ground, empty drums in the streams.

Phosphates leaching into waterways is a huge problem here. Creates algal blooms etc.

Most outdoor growers are in tune with Nature though and care about the enviroment they grow in, they don't wanna see it destroyed.

well at least in Australia.

Go Guerilla Growers! Peace. Nibbler. =)

Sorry, here's the link.

Or how about some more bullshit from this site.

Fiction: Drug Legalization Works

Fact: Tolerant drug policies in other countries have led to higher drug abuse rates and negative social consequences.

Here's the link to this article.

Well for starters it is not legal anywhere, not even in Holland, so it is not a valid argument, becasue there are no examples of drug legalization not working. I would call this an argument from ignorance. The claim that drug legalization doesn't work is assumed to be true because it has not been proven to be false.

So where do they get their "facts" for this bit of crap?

Some scientific studies coupled with some meta-analysis to test the hypothesis?

Fuck No who need scientific studies and actual facts when you have mass media. The three news media sources for this were Deutsche Welle, New York Times, and Expatica News.

The worst part is the way the anti drug site twists the facts. They claim that Dutch model has failed and that use has trippled amongst 18-20yr olds. But if you read through the source atricles they are not making any such claims. Here a couple of links below.

The truth is that the studies that have been done show the opposite. Cannabis use is lower in the Netherlands than in the US.

I've had this debate before regarding destroying the environment with arguments such as "But what would happen to all the officers who have had a job created?" Yeah on a lie! Come on people if the government created a legal industry it would create more jobs and industries then the fight against it currently does.
