Can I use 400W 20000K MH bulb

Recommended Posts

Thank you, Nibbler. I actually started this thread yesterday to discuss whether or not a 20000K bulb at the end of a grow would increase THC production. The thing is, does this bulb emit enough UVB to make the plant increase its defense mechanism? I agree, MH for grow, HPS for flower. I just thought that maybe a good dose of UVB about 1 month before finish would force the plant to defend itself by producing more resin. Does this make sense?

Hey, STONEDAJ69! Which brand of bulb? How much? Here is what USHIO has:lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/specialty-lights/Ushio-Aqua.pdf. The color spectrum looks like it may be closest on the 10000K. UVB is 280-315nm. Here is a link to the bulb I have been talking about:400W 400 watt 10000K Metal Halide Aquarium Bulb 10K. They are so inexpensive, I might get a couple of them just to satisfy my own curiosity. This one is rated at 32000 lumensUltra Sun 400W MS400/10000K Metal Halide M59 Light Bulb 901542 - Light Bulb Surplus. This last one may be the bulb to experiment with. It has just about the right amount of lumens, and a good spectrum. It is about $30.00. Edited by ulis5714

I think you're missing what people have been saying to you...

MH bulbs, whilst they do ouput uv-b (or so I've been told), they output it at such negligible amounts that it really would have no effect on plant growth

For PROPER uv-b bulbs, you need to find a specialist supplier, I'm guessing there aren't too many aquarium stores that will stock them.

By law, Bulbs in AU have to be shielded against uv-b *radiation* not sure if that's the right word, and thus you won't find them at your local shopping center, or whathaveyou

Best bet would be to purchase your bulbs from china - however, how you might go about that is a mystery to me.

As mongy said, they are generally used for printing and such... Make some new friends in the printing industry if you must.

I have bought a few items in the past from a site called aliexpress.com. I will see what I can find. I have no audio/video playback on my laptop. I don't know what the problem could be. I am doing a full scan using BITDEFENDER. Any ideas on what could be wrong? I have uninstalled and reinstalled VLC Media Player. I may have to wipe my disk. I can't watch a movie, or play music. Very strange.
