Can I use 400W 20000K MH bulb

Recommended Posts

You are very welcome, puka! I have been up all night researching this, and there seems to be a lot of information on the subject. UVB does seem to increase potency. It also causes cancer and eye damage if one is overexposed. It is best not to be in the room when these lights are on. Makes me wonder if it is worth the effort. Or the risk. Still, a 25% increase in potency might be possible. I have some HERIJUANA seeds that are supposed to grow plants that are rated at 25% THC. Have you any experience with this strain? Do you think it is possible to boost the potency even more than that using UVB?

THC potency is hardcoded in the strains dna, however the potency rating is the strain grown in its most ideal conditions.

my advice, dont try to become the expert with your first grow, you will end up spending some big cash real quick. start out simple and reflect on your own experience compared to what you are reading, that is the best way to get the most out of your plants.

Hey, MongyMan! Do you think a 400 Watt MH 20000K aquarium light will be enough? I can get these bulbs for $20.00 each. They have a life of 10000 hours. If you know where to get a better bulb for this, please let me know.

It wont no....You need special globes that are mainly used for specialised jobs like printing for an eg. Any globes that have a domestic use in Australia must be shielded for UV-b light by law. Reptile lights they sell have a small amount of UV-b but they are mostly emiting UV-a light. For what you are talking about u need more UV-b than they emit.

Peace MongyMan

Ps....as others have said, it's best to learn to grow a plant first....then you can experiment.......hard to experiment if you dont know how to already grow imo.

Hello, headhigh! I doubt I will ever be an expert at anything. I just think knowledge and preparation are essential. Fewer mistakes that way! At first, I considered hydroponics. Too much can go wrong. Too much work. Then I considered Jack's 16-4-17 in coco coir. I still might kill the plants through over/under feeding. Now I see SUBCOOL's Super Soil Mix, and all one needs to add is water. Seems this is the way to go. I have my light fixtures and bulbs, details posted earlier. I am here to learn from you guys, not teach. Perhaps you are correct, and maybe I will scrap my ideas about UVB. It was a nice thought though, don't you think? Thanks, MongyMan! I did not know that. Now that I have conversed with the experts, I can see that I should scrap UVB for sure. I thank you for pointing out my error in thinking. What would I do without expert advice? That is, after all, why I logged onto this site. I thank all of you for your help! Edited by ulis5714

Thanks, headhigh! I have downloaded and read a ton of written material from Pirate Bay, and I am certain I have Marijuana Horticulture: The Indoor/Outdoor Medical growers Bible. One of the first things I did was purchase Greg Green's book: The Cannabis Grow Bible. I just don't remember reading much, if anything, about UVB. I suppose it is possible to study this to death. I have just been accumulating equipment and seeds. I cannot grow here in Oklahoma, the penalty is too stiff! 2 years to life for even 1 plant! In other states, such as North Carolina, only 1 year for 1000 plants. Several states allow licenses to grow for medical purposes with a doctor's recommendation. Even so, it is still against Federal law to cultivate cannabis in ANY state in the USA. I would just HATE to get life in prison, so I can wait. I will continue to study up on the subject, though. I can be contacted at ulis5714@yahoo.com. I will always be happy to hear from any of you, and I will continue to visit this site regularly. I see that it has snowed a little bit here in Oklahoma while I have been doing my research. Are you in Australia? I think I might have some seeds called Aussie Blues from Amsterdam Marijuana Seeds. I hope to grow it one day.

heya ulis5714, If ya got the 400w MH ballast you can run a 400w grow globe, at least ya know its the right spectrum.

You may need a bit more red in the spectrum to grow well, MH grow lights even have some red spectrum.

For the MH ballasts if you wanted to use a HPS globe, you can buy a conversion globe, its a HPS that can run on MH control gear.

Will cost about $80-90 for a good phillips globe. All I use now and their Son-T agro globes, brilliant. Right tool for the Job mate. Peace. Nibbler.
