Drug busts net $1.5m booty

THE Queensland Police Service's Flying Squad has seized almost $1.5 million worth of illicit drugs including heroin, cannabis and methylamphetamine this year.

 

Police Minister Tony McGrady today said the Flying Squad was established to tackle major crimes and serious surges in crime across Queensland.

 

The squad has the capacity to be at the scene of any crime within a short time to investigate and help police.

 

Mr McGrady said the squad had seized $1.485 million in illegal drugs in the past 12 months.

 

"In the last 12 months, officers from the flying squad have arrested 523 offenders on 741 charges, including assault, unlawful entry, drug offences and sexual offences," Mr McGrady said.

 

"In addition, investigative support from the Flying Squad has resulted in a further 877 offenders being arrested on 1,782 charges laid by regionally based police."

Just goes to prove that the cops are lazy bastards. 1.5 million for the whole of Qld. What a joke. Instead of busting users, and small backyard operations they should hit the big commercial growers, the importers etc. Then they may have some stats worth crowing about
