MALE? FEMALE? OR HERMI.... :S IM SCARED LOL

hey fellas,

 

im a lil concerned atm,

 

i have a 5-6 foot plant that looked like it got a bit stretched....

 

its had female preflowers for freaking ages!!

 

but i have noticed something that doesnt seem right?

 

i will post a pic up and could u help me identify what sex this plant is :S..

 

the callyx (i think thats it lol) looks quite plump and banana-ish for it to be female :S...

yea the calyx is the the little spur like thing where the branches join the mainstem .. in the photo your finger is directly behind the calyx connie_waterbonsai.gif

usually the calyx has two white sticky hairs protruding , it is these hairs that catch the tiny pollen grain and fertilization occurs, then the embryonic seed begins to grow

most likely on yours the white hairs have shrivelled and died sometime ago as they only stay viable for so long, even if not fertilized.

 

if it was male, instead of calyxes you would see little green balls appearing where the calyxes are in your picture

it is within these tiny green balls the male pollen is when the balls open the pollen falls out and drops or is carried by wind to nearby females

bottom left of picture shows pollen sack open exposing the 'bananas' alongside is the calyx, see
