Need Some Guidance

So I've just celebrated my 20 years of consectutive smoking and realised I'm not about to quit anytime soon.

Last summer I put in a handful of plants from bagseed I had collected. I had no idea what I was doing. Here's a couple of them.

It was good smoke, not amazing but I was happy with the results.

Now I've put another handful in, but the problem is I don't grow large scale enough to keep myself supplied all year round. The other problem is the growing season where I live is not so long.

So my first question is would growing indoor be a good way to deal with this problem?

Here's one plant I have going this year but it was planted very late. I had a bunch of seedlings in early on but the hail and storms we had here wiped them out.

So now I'm considering growing indoor, I've been looking at grow tents from the websites sponsors.

Is this a good deal? I was going to exchange the 400w light for a 600w for an extra $50

I realise this is a hand watering, hand feeding kit however given I know not much about indoor setups, I thought it may be a good place to start.

Alternatively, I do have a large outdoor place I can use, but it would require a lot of travelling and with my current job I'm not sure I could go there every single weekend to check things are ok (someone else lives there and would water them).

Cliffs :

Want to become self sufficient

Grow small number of plants every summer but its not enough

Should I setup a small indoor system or a larger outdoor grow

Need advice on indoor system listed above

Thankyou for reading my novel

Not sure why they say you wouldn't need odour control?? Anyone know anything about this..????

What size is the fan? You should be able to pick up a half decent 150mm inline for about $35

I think the kit looks ok though.. You would be better off getting larger quantities of nutes IMO. as one litre will not get yuou through your grow,.

That timer is a bit pricey IMO.. I have found the cheapies from BigW work fine, however, I am sure I will be shot for saying so..

Perhaps you could price the components of the kit seperately, just to see how much it's really worth...

hey man,

Good to see you put some effort into research and using initiative.

Sounds like a good set up..... Im with puka on the odour control. you don't need it for tomatoes, but I'm guessing u don't grow em. Should have a carbon filter. Tent is a good price. I would grow indoors. Don't rely on others to water. As for timers big w or kmart cheapies are good. Mine been goin strong for a couple of years now... Just keep a few handy. Hand watering coco is a good way to start. I love coco but you have to use coco spec nutes.

Good luck

As a n00b myself that has a similar setup, here's my amateur opinion (in other words, wait until someone backs up my point before taking it as gospel, just in case I get it wrong ;)):

  • Dunno what an airjet fan is and I tried googling with different results. This tells me that you may want to take a safer option more recommended by Cannabis growing enthusiasts. Take a look around and see what others are using and what they say about them.
  • 30 AMPS is bit overkill(?), but it's cheap so whatevs
  • 3M of ducting is a little short when the light is lowered and the ducting is going out near the top of the tent (remember the tent height is 1.8-2.0M), mainly because you want that ducting to go somewhere, right? Out a window, into the bedroom? Measure the length and estimate how much ducting you need.
  • I'm not a big fan of grommets with their long blonde fringes and their immature attitudes, but at 19mm I reckon I could take them on.
  • Don't get me started on the 19mm Elbows. Too easy.
  • Like Puka said, more nutes and more ph, just in case. you don't want to run out and wait for a delivery.
  • Like Token JJ said, don't rely on others to water, unless it's your missus and she watches you do it all the time. As a n00b you should get to know your beginner plants especially just so you know accurately what has been done so you can troubleshoot problems quicker and learn faster.
  • Quicker learning equals faster fatbuds
  • As JJ said, get a carbon filter. You will need one unless your neighbours are close.

Other than that I found this picture which I found funny:
