I was diagnosed 7 years ago with every auto-immune disease you can think of, RA, Lupus, Raynauds, Sjorgrens. At the same time I also suffered extreme physical and mental abuse, and to top it off I was working as a psychiatric nurse in an adult-acute in-patient setting. I used to smoke a little mj in uni, but found myself naturally gravitating towards smoking more and different types ( the white varieties). I have seen 3 specialists who have all said "you don't present with normal symptoms, we don't know what to do". I truly believe mj is saving my life. I went from 43kg and 7 years later I'm up to 55kg. I haven't worked in 3yrs, but am now able to look at going back part-time. I even moved inter-state to help improve my situation. When I did try western medicine, I ended up with retinal damage in my eyes, the beginnings of a stomach ulcer, and cognitive changes due to the steroids. My dream is that the truth be told so I don't feel like a criminal when trying to find my medicine while waiting for my plants to grow :crybaby:

This is the most insidious negative aspect of legislation against cannabis i believe. The guilt tripping spinners and unsubstantiated or justified and un-Truthful condemnations and horror stories ( ie 'hydroponic labs' lol ) Just like body image spin- All forms of advertising are also manipulative propaganda designed to the sole purpose of selling you an unattainable dream. Cannabis is only illegal because it pierces the To the Truth of the Lie-and the LOve of money and power-alll this is direct from the Deceiver. Yes, I ranted lol and Cannabis is THE Medicine for my chronic knees and the associated depressions that arrive w/constant pain.

Peace to you always. v :sun:

Thanks V, I'm cheered up by hearing that. I'm hopeful that one day instead of having to deal with "secure" forums like this, we will all be openly swapping strains, giving it away to those in need and puffing freely in the streets in which we live. Happy hugs :yahoo:

Computer Engineer, smoked for the last 8 years, my supply has just dried up at the moment but MJ has changed my quality of life hugely, I think it can be abuse just like everything else, but between the RSI issues back and neck pain from sitting in a chair for 12 hours a day i havent found a substitute that comes close.

Hi Wietlover, I joined up for the sole reason that I am researching relief from my arthritis.  I also have Ankylosing Spondylitis, and was diagnosed here in Melb by one of the top guys in the field.  When I found out it was a degenerative genetic condition, and there was no cure, it floored me.  Anyways, I did have it so bad that walking 5 feet to the toilet could take up to 20 mins of excruciating throbbing pain, as you may well know, but once I removed, gluten and starches from my diet, the extremely sharp pain has lessened.  I was taking 200 mg Tramadol daily which helped with the lethargy and for 2 years I could be mobile.  Though with long term use being linked to blindness I had to stop.  So, here I am on this journey, the doctors pain relief medication doesnt work, and well, I'm in pain as I sit here and type this.  I am sick of it.  Truly.  So, anyway, I just wanted to say hello and would be grateful if you could reccomend anything.      Have heard Cripple Creek strain is suppose to be good for arthritis.   Oh, and I havnt smoked in around 15 years, though I was a big pothead before AS arrived.  Cheers.

Hi lisa4, welcome to ozstoners!!! lol

I have a form of arthritis called Ankylosing spondilitis....it is a progressive bone desease that fuses all the joints in your body....starting in the hip with the sacroiliac joints and moving up your spine fusing all your verterbrae together...All your nerves run thru these joints and as they start to get crushed with the fusing, the pain can be tremendous....walking can be a problem and some days i am unable to almost move due to the pain i get from it..Sleeping ..well thats a bad area for me ..i am lucky to get 4 hours a night due to the pain..i find the sleep deprevation hits me the hardest( especially when you also work 50+ hours a week!!)

This last 6 months have been the worst i have experienced in the 20 years i have been living with it..and i have had almost 5 weeks off work with it in total...

"AS" has no cure hence the "progressive" lol. Anti infammatries and pain killers(oxycotin/tramal/codine) are all that have been pescribed to me and i decided many years ago i was not gonna stay on that merry-go-round!! All have bad side effects.. eg..my anti inflammitries can cause ya kidneys to fail over time and also fucks with ya blood pressure! I dont get any negative affects with cannabis ..only POSITIVES!!!!! There are some new anti-body treatments, but i am to far gone to have them make a difference.

I have been a recreational smoker since i was around 14,,but soon found that the cannabis i was smoking made the pain alot easier to deal with and that set me on my course!!

I was lucky to live in the Netherlands for almost 8 years where i had accses to medical grade cannabis.Over that time i came to relise that cannabis was my saviour!!! I tend to smoke and grow indica dominate plants as i'm looking for more CBD'S than THC. Not to say i dont enjoy satis.. lol..

Over the last year i have cultivated the following strains-

White Russian- this is a hybrid of AK-47 and white widow..it was quite medicinal but was a bit heady at the same time

Cheese- this was extremly medical..i barely took any medication while i was smoking this, and slept most nights for 6 hours +.

I also make hash from my trim and popcorn buds..smoking this in combination with the cannabis is the ulitamte medicine for me....not much pain and a good nights sleep!!

At the moment i am growing Afghan kush(100% indica) and puna budder(Affie x hawaiin)..i have found the kush to be the most medicinal strain i have smoked, and add some resin to the mix with it and it is better meds than any pharmacy could make!!!

I have 2 vaporisers..a digital volcano and a iolite portable..both are a great healthy way to ingest cannabis, but i find i need to really smoke my meds to get the required effect..so my bong is my prefered method ,but everybody is different!!

Good on ya for exploring this option...you may find you can toss ya meds in the bin!!

You should really talk to your doctor and specialist about the releif you get from cannabis(its all confidential!!) have them document it on your (Confidental)records. This can help ya case if you ever have any legal problem's arise from using/growing..you can at least prove you are a medical user!! Some doctors will not support cannabis use at all...some will..but you will know whats right for you!!

I hope this helps you get on the road to a more pain free life!!!

lol wiet

hi again, Ive posted my introduction in the Livingstone section etc.  Have had no replies, but I just wanted to share what I have found out in regards to MJ for arthritis, depression, anxiety and autism.

I am a double-diagnosed Asperger Syndrome, which is a mild form of autism.  Clinical depression and high anxiety go hand in hand with the majority of us.  This is a combination of nurture and nature.

Many years ago I found great relief smoking, it would relax me, but as the demand grew, I found the strains getting stronger and stronger, which made me feel less relaxed and more on edge and uneasy.  Anyway, from what I can gather the THC rose as more and more people were looking to get really high.  I think this is the reason I stopped smoking, it just increased anxiety and not lessen it.

Have been thoroughly researching the anti-depressant and painkiller properties of strains for a few days and have found that the lower the THC content, and the higher the CBD content, the more theraupetic weed is for alleviating pain and anxiety etc.  Which kinda flies in the face off 99 percent of smokers who seem to want the strongest stuff to get high.  In further research I have found that Hemp itself has virtually no THC, yet has a very high CBD percentage of approx 15 percent.  Which would be the most perfect medication for medical purposes.  No high, lots of anti-anxiety and pain relief etc.  I have looked up seed banks, yet couldnt see any hemp seeds anywhere.  Possibly because nobody wants to buy them?

From there, I discovered http://projectcbd.org/  which lists 25 of the highest CBD strains for medical use.  After searching for these strains on the seedbanks, Kushage is really the only one I could find available.

http://www.leafly.com/hybrid/kushage  The only problem here is that there is still a percentage of THC, which is what I dont want.

So thats as far as Ive got researching.  From an autistic standpoint, it seems the CBD high strains are helping autistics, especially children with their behaviour, focus and happiness without getting them as high as Hendrix..

Ive found this, among others that is very useful..  http://cannabisforautism.wordpress.com/tag/cbd/

So, thats my 2 cents for today.  I'd love to hear from anyone regarding arthritic relief, as today I am in more pain than usual.  And frankly, I'm sick of it.

cheers.
